Bio: Chant is a trio born in 1999 from an idea of drummer Cristiano Calcanile.
Until 2007, Chant performed as an acoustic trio, releasing an album in 2003 for the Italian label "Caligola" that was enthusiastically received by critics for the strong interplay of the players and the original blend of compositional elements and free improvisation.
In 2007, during the recording of their second album, the trio felt a strong need to rethink their musical working method, and thus the decision of enrich their instrumental and compositional palette. That necessity brought the inclusion of electric and electronic (electric bass and synthesizers) and acoustic instruments (harpsichord, pipe organ, clavichord and harmonium) as well as the use of the recording studio "as an instrument" (a feature that is usually atypical in the improvised music field). This process consisted in one year dedicated to the pre-production of the new material, and a new, longer recording session during Summer 2008 in Finland.
This music is the result of our personal research between composition and improvisation, but with a strong intention of leaving the interplay and the simple joy of playing together intact.

Thief of hearts
City lights
Stretched out before you
As all the maidens
On the carousel dance
Look into my eyes
Look into my eyes
I am a
[Chorus 1]
Your words
They fall like rain
On your fallen prey
Weave your web
Weave your web
[Verse 2:]
Do you remember?
Do you remember the rain?
Do you remember?
Do you remember the sunny days?
Look into my eyes
Look into my eyes
I am a
I am a...
Young Valentino
A Young Valentino
I am a...
Young Valentino
[Chorus 2:]
Your words
They fall like rain
On your faithful again
Do your worst
Do your worst
I am a
Young Valentino
A Young Valentino
I am a Young Valentino
In Chant's song Young Valentino, the lyrics tell the story of a seductive thief of hearts prowling the city streets, luring in his prey with his charming demeanor. The opening verse illustrates the allure of the city lights as they stretch out before Young Valentino, while the maidens dance on the carousel. The repeated refrain to "Look into my eyes" speaks to his intense gaze that likely contributes to his success in ensnaring his victims.
The first chorus seems to describe how Valentino's smooth words have a hypnotic effect on his prey, giving him the opportunity to weave his web of seduction around them. The second verse reflects on memories of both rainy and sunny days, suggesting that the ups and downs of life have made Young Valentino who he is today. It is significant that he refers to himself as a "Young Valentino" twice in the chorus, perhaps indicating that he has taken on this persona in order to succeed in his seductive pursuits.
Overall, the lyrics in Young Valentino paint a picture of a charismatic and somewhat dangerous character who thrives on the thrill of the chase. The repetition of certain phrases such as "Look into my eyes" and "Young Valentino" reinforces his confidence and desire for attention.
