Love Me or Leave Me
Chantal Chamberland Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love me or leave me or let me be lonely
You won't believe me but I love you only
I'd rather be lonely than happy with somebody else

You might find the night time the right time for kissing
But night time is my time for just reminiscing
Regretting instead of forgetting with somebody else
There'll be no one unless that someone is you
I intend to be independently blue

I want your love but I don't to borrow
To have it today and to give back tomorrow

My love is your love
There's no love for nobody else

Overall Meaning

In Chantal Chamberland's song "Love Me or Leave Me," the lyrics express a raw and honest approach to love. The line "Love me or leave me or let me be lonely" sets the tone for the rest of the song. It suggests that the author is not one to compromise, and that they value their independence enough not to be swayed easily by another. The second line, "You won't believe me but I love you only," is a plea to the object of the author's affection. It is an admission of their own vulnerability, but also an acknowledgement of their own strength.

The following lines, "I'd rather be lonely than happy with somebody else" speak to the idea that true happiness comes from within. The author is saying that they would rather be alone than compromise their own desires for the sake of someone else's. This line is particularly powerful because it reflects a sense of self-respect and self-worth that is not often seen in love songs.

The second verse, "You might find the night time the right time for kissing / But night time is my time for just reminiscing," reinforces the notion that the author is not in a hurry to fall in love. They are content with the simple moments, and perhaps even find solace in their own memories. The final line "There'll be no one unless that someone is you / I intend to be independently blue" is a challenge to the object of the author's affection. It suggests that if they cannot handle the author's independence, then they are not the right person for them.

Chantal Chamberland has proven again that she is a singer with soul and a voice that is perfect for a song like Nina Simone made popular. It,s a pleasure to listen to. Thanks Chantal!

This song has very light tune unlike its lyrics.. I enjoyed listening to the music and thank you so much for sharing it~ ^_^

This is a classic Nona Simone song and cover - Love Chantal, but she needs to be careful about covering a song that was so uniquely done by Nina over close to 60 years ago - this was in her heyday before her bi-polar condition took over and nearly ruined her life - what a comeback by her many years later - Nina traveled and lived in Europe, playing to small clubs and bars in France before finally returning to the US

@margotrobichaud1155

Nina Simone's tune was at a faster pace but this one is more modern and a better arrangement.
