Grace

I cannot breathe you in
Your air is too thick for me
And it makes my lungs sting
Please don't go
I cannot walk beside
Think I'll stay behind a mile
And do you still have grace
And mercy, mercy
To keep on kissin' my face
Even though I am wrong, wrong, wrong
Please don't go
Without you I am weak
I find myself drinkin' and sinkin' and seekin'
Please don't go
Sometimes it gets so cold
That I'd rather grab for a blanket instead
Of getting into your comfort zone
Do you still have grace
And mercy, sweet mercy
To keep on kissin' my face
Even though I am wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong
Ooh, ooh
Oh, oh
I know I've wronged you
I know I've hurt you so many times
I hope I haven't scarred you
You still have grace
And you still have this mercy
To keep on kissin' my face
Even though I am wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong
You still have grace
And mercy, mercy
To keep kissin' my face
Even though I am wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong
If you keep kissin' my face
One day, I'll no longer do you wrong
The song "Grace" by Chantal Kreviazuk expresses the fear of losing someone that a person loves despite the difficulties they face. The singer is afraid of being left alone, but at the same time, she feels that being with the person she loves is too much for her to handle. She is suffocating in the air that her lover brings and is afraid of being judged by them. The singer clearly admires the qualities that her lover has, such as grace and mercy, and is afraid that her actions can result in their departure. She admits to having done wrong in the past and hopes that her lover will forgive her trespasses and continue to show her love, despite her shortcomings.
The song's lyrics speak to the power of forgiveness and the need for acceptance in relationships. The idea of grace portrays the unmerited love and kindness that a lover can show, even when the other person fails to live up to their expectations. Love is not perfect and can be messy, but the song acknowledges that despite all of this, a relationship can still thrive.
