Chapter 14 was formed in 2003 by Chad Ackerman (Destroy The Runner, Die Trying, As I Lay Dying, and Austrian Death Machine). Other members in the band were Tanner Sparks on guitar (Destroy The Runner), Mike Catalano on drums (Chiodos and Destroy The Runner), Noah Slifka on guitar (In Fear & Faith), and Eddie Hudson on bass (Paper Mache).
The band never released an album, but did two U.S. tours on their own. They also recorded several demos without a label or financial backing. In 2007, after trying for so long to make a full length album and to score a record deal, the band split up.
Chad Ackerman and Tanner Sparks then went on to join Destroy The Runner (Solid State Records). Mike Catalano started teaching for Jordan Mancino (As I Lay Dying) and later went on to drum for the bands Chiodos and Destroy The Runner. Noah Slifka became In Fear & Faith's (Rise Records) lead guitarist. Eddie Hudson moved on to play bass for the band Paper Mache. In 2010, Destroy The Runner went on an indefinite hiatus. Chad and Tanner decided to start up Chapter 14 again. As of then, they are the only permanent members of Chapter 14. Both Chad and Tanner recorded and asked the original Chapter 14 line up to help with this process. On November 30, 2010 they released an EP called 'Like Trees In November'. And later on 'The Bad Shephard' as a single. As of September 2022, both their EP and demos are on Spotify for the world to listen to.

Winter
Chapter 14 Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There’s nothing I can do
And you keep haunting me
This winter’s through
That’s why I killed you
That’s why you died
Just you and I asleep on the ground
How we lived then
It’s a myth now
What we gave then
It’s a myth now
Don’t look at me
I’m not your drawing
I’m not your dad
I’m not your god
I’m nothing
This winter’s through
There’s no more snow falling on us now
Just you and I asleep on the ground
How we lived then
It’s a myth now
What we gave then
It’s a myth now
You don’t know how it feels
How it hurts
I won’t show how it feels
How it hurts
You’re so cold
Winter by Chapter 14 is a song with a deep message of heartbreak and loss. The lyrics convey a sense of inescapability from the pain of a lost love. The line "This will never leave me, there’s nothing I can do" is a powerful expression of a broken heart that can't forget.
The haunting presence of the lost love is also conveyed with the repeated line, "And you keep haunting me, this winter’s through" - this shows that the pain is deep and taking a toll on the singer. The only solution offered by the song is encapsulated in the line, "That’s why I killed you, that’s why you died." This line suggests that the only way to get over the pain is to let go of the past, and to do that, the singer must let go of the lost love entirely.
The refrain, "There’s no more snow falling on us now, just you and I asleep on the ground," conveys a sense of a symbolic death of the relationship. The following line, "How we lived then, it’s a myth now, what we gave then, it’s a myth now," drives home the point that the singer now realizes that the relationship was an illusion, and it's time to move on. In the final lines, "You don’t know how it feels, how it hurts, I won’t show how it feels, how it hurts, you’re so cold," the singer's pain is evident and can be felt through the song's words.
