Chara earned her nickname as a schoolchild from her teacher (charachara means "scatterbrained") and has been called such ever since. She has always been musically involved, she began composing music in her later years of elementary school and played keyboard in a band from her second year of high school.
One of the things that defines Chara's music is her singing voice. It is often described as sweet and whispering like a child's, yet forceful and sincere. Despite her very distinctive singing voice, Chara considers herself a musician first and foremost; proficient with instruments such as the piano, drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, synthesizer and tambourine. There are common themes to a lot of her music, including motherhood, innocence, love, beauty, and cheerfulness.
She has appeared as one of the main characters in 'Swallowtail Butterfly' movie and sang all the songs. The album 'Montage' is actually a vocal collection from this movie, that's why it was released under the name of Yen Town Band - which is a fictional band from the story. She has also starred in 'PiCNiC' where she played the mental patient Coco. She would go on to marry her co-star Asano Tadanobu (浅野忠信) in 1995. Currently, the pair have two children, a daughter Sumire (born 1995) and later a son Himi (born 1999).

かぐわしいね over my feeling かぐわしいね over my feeling
私を知れ 交換しよう

The lyrics of Chara's song Feeling Feeling convey a sense of longing for a connection that cannot be achieved. The first line, "Hibiwareta tsukaenai wa sono furin ga zutto yo" translates to "the cracked, unusable wind chime continues to exist." The wind chime serves as a metaphor for the singer's desire for something that is out of reach, yet remains present in their mind. The repetition of the phrase "eien to zutto yo" ("forever and ever") highlights the singer's obsession with this unattainable desire.
The second stanza shifts towards a plea for companionship, with the singer asking to be taken along for the ride, whether in joy or sorrow. The lines "Tatoeba atashi to fumetsu to itte / Otoshitai no wa namida sore to taikutsu to / Okashii na tanoshime eien to taikutsu to wo / Kanashime kanashime" translate to "Say that you and I are immortal / What I want to drop are tears and boredom / It's funny, enjoy sadness and boredom forever / Grieve, grieve." The juxtaposition of joy and sorrow underscores the complexity of the singer's emotions.
The final stanza starts with an invitation to "gather" something, which is left ambiguous. The lines "Tsuna-mereba? Fumanai de ai no mi sotto yo / Otoshite mo tabete hitotsu chanto mitsumete yo / Shimei kanashime tanoshime tanoshime / Ma wo shire sou, kanjite / Kakeru no? Hashire! Kōkan shiyou? / Ima sore wo taikutsu to yoberu no?" translate to "If we gather it, shall we not step on the fruit of love / Even if you drop it, eat one and look closely / Duty, sorrow, enjoyment, enjoyment / Know the space between, feel it / Run? Exchange it! / Can you call it boring now?" The repeated urging to "know" and "feel" indicates a desire for genuine connection and comprehension.
