Generals
Charged G.B.H Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Charged G.B.H's song Generals depict the manipulation and lies that soldiers are told in order to get them to fight and die for their country. The song exposes the way in which generals and political leaders use propaganda and empty promises to convince young men to enlist in their armies. The opening lines, "We'll lead you into victory, you hear the generals say. Never look behind you, we're with you all the way," reveal the false sense of security and confidence that is instilled in soldiers through the words of their leaders.

The lyrics then go on to describe the grueling and horrific conditions of war, with lines like "Marching into victory, marching in the mud. Fighting for freedom, fighting in the blood." The chorus repeats the ominous line "Britain needs you to die for her," emphasizing the idea that the lives of soldiers are mere sacrificial pawns in the game of war.

As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the reality of war is far from the glorious victory promised by the generals. The final lines, "But where were the generals when you needed them most?" speak to the betrayal and abandonment that soldiers often feel when they return home from war, alienated and traumatized by their experiences.

Overall, Generals is a powerful commentary on the politics of war and the way that propaganda can be used to manipulate young men into putting their lives on the line for their country.

Love that bass bit when it comes in.

@JohnnyangelNIU

It's too upfront. It's iconic, but the guitar riff is what's most important. The guitar riff should be more upfront in the mix, with the bass then slightly behind. Just my opinion.
