He is widely regarded as one of the first American classical composers of international significance. Ives's music was largely ignored during his life, and many of his works went unperformed for many years. Over time, Ives would come to be regarded as one of the "American Originals", a composer working in a uniquely American style, with American tunes woven through his music, and a reaching sense of the possibilities in music.

I think what he meant is how this piece was conceived before the apparent breakdown of tonality which was in 1907/1908. But you probably know it by now

genial la obra, no se si sere demasiado exquisito, pero la estoy analizando y me di cuenta de que en el compás 3 el violín I tiene escrito caer en esas dos corcheas a tierra en el pulso, a diferencia de lo que venía haciendo y del violín II, y más adelante en la tercer sección (cuando comienza nuevamente luego de la sección lenta, muy similar a la primera) en ese mismo compás está a contratiempo junto con el violín II, la lógica indicaría que hay un error en la edición

y que en el compás 3 el 1er violín debiera tener corcheas en contratiempo tal como lo tiene el 2do violín, puesto que escuchando la música esas dos corcheas no se sienten tal y como está escrito en la partitura. Muy buena interpretación!
