I love this kind of darker noir-esque jazz. All the complexity and groove of jazz with the punch and soul of blues.

Yes it's absolutely beautiful; you can hear every single instrument thread right through the complexity. Buying it 2moro .

The outstanding piece on this album is Love Chant . Possibly Mingus's finest work , it has everything that makes Mingus stand out from the rest . Collective improvisation . the theme multi lined , piano and both sax's creating a tremendous feeling of unity. Great solo's particularly from McLean .
Mingus once said that all of his compositions are a progression from previous work. In Love Chant you can hear his West Coast early roots.
