So Over You
Charli XCX Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everything I gave boy you'd break it
I was so hurt that my heart couldn't take it
You used to tell me without you I wouldn't make it

But boy you should know
I'm so over you, it's crazy
Taking your number off out my phone
Boy I'm doing just fine alone
Can't believe I called you baby

Boy you should know
I'm so over you

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Charli XCX's song So Over You depict a woman who has been hurt by a past lover. The first two lines suggest that the person she gave her all to, the person she trusted the most, broke her heart. She was left so hurt that she couldn't take it anymore. The next line, "You used to tell me without you I wouldn't make it," indicates that the person who hurt her was once a significant part of her life. But now, she's so over them that she's removing his number from her phone.

The chorus, "But boy you should know, I'm so over you, it's crazy," indicates that the woman has moved on from the pain and is doing much better now. The next two lines, "Taking your number off out my phone, boy I'm doing just fine alone," reaffirms that she's doing well without him. The final line, "Can't believe I called you baby," indicates regret for ever allowing the person to have that level of intimacy with her. The song's overall tone is one of empowerment and triumph, as though the songwriter is over the pain of a past lover and is moving on to better things.
