3) The English Band
The jazz-inflected, London-based group Charlie was as well-known for the sexy babes on their album covers as they were for their close, smooth harmonies and slick, catchy singles like ´Turning´ and ´Watching TV.´ The band´s core lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist Terry Thomas (who had also been in a band with Free and Bad Company´s Simon Kirke), bassist/vocalist John Anderson (formerly of Axe) and drummer Steve Gadd (not to be confused with the american session-drummer), and a wide array of supporting players, including keyboardist Julian Colbeck, guitarist Martin Smith, auxiliary drummer Shep Lonsdale and former Argent members Bob Henrit and John Verity. Their radio-friendly sound debuted in 1976 with ´Fantasy Girls´ and the group managed a steady stream of moderate FM hits in the US and the UK, including 1978´s ´Killer Cut´ and ´She Loves To Be In Love.´ However, Charlie´s biggest success came with the 1983 hit ´It's Inevitable,´ which recieved considerable airplay from MTV and was featured on their self-titled 7th album. Despite the added prominence this single and tours with the Doobie Brothers, Styx, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and the Kinks brought them, the group remained primarily a cult favorite for their nearly decade-long career. Charlie´s swan song came in 1984 with ´In Pursuit Of Romance´, which featured Thomas as the only original member. Four of their albums -- ´Fight Dirty´, ´Good Morning America´, ´Here Comes Trouble´ and ´No Second Chance´ -- were re-released as CD two-fer packages from Renaissance Records in the late 90´s; the label also released ´Best Of Charlie´ in early 2000.
In 2009 the band released a new album named Kitchens of Distinction

Charlie Lyrics

You can't run it, you can't hide it, you can't run it
Love has problems I know but there problems, we'll just have to face.
If you just put your hand in mine,
We're gonna leave all our troubles behind.
We're gonna walk and don't look back.
Don't look back
And don't look back
Don't look back
The places behind you let them re-remind you
If your first lover broke your heart,
There's something that can be done.
You don't run it, you don't hide it, you don't run it
Don't end your faith in love because of what he's done.
So if you just put your hand in mine,
We're gonna leave all our troubles behind.
Keep on walking and don't look back.
Forget about the past now.
Don't look back, baby.
Keep on walking and don't look back
The places behind you let them re-remind you.
Love can be a beautiful thing.
Though your first love let you down.
'Cause I know we can make love bloom, baby.
The second time around.
So if you just put your hand in mine,
We're gonna leave all our troubles behind.
Keep on pushing and don't look back.
Now, till I say, we won't look back, girl.
Keep on walking and won't look back.
Forget about the past now, baby.
And don't look back.
Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, don't look back.
In Charlie's song "Don't Look Back," the lyrics urge listeners not to let past traumatic experiences get in the way of finding love again. The first line of the song is a powerful reminder that there's no use in running from love. It's inevitable and will catch up eventually. The repetition of the line "you can't run it, you can't hide it, you can't run it" emphasizes the idea that love cannot be avoided.
The lyrics continue to address the challenges that love can bring but suggest that facing those challenges is better than avoiding love altogether. The idea that "we'll just have to face" these problems together reinforces that idea that love is a journey and that it takes effort from both parties. The lyrics emphasize that if two people commit to each other, they can leave their troubles behind and move forward.
The stanza "The places behind you let them re-remind you" suggests that it's okay to remember the past and learn from it, but not to dwell on it. The song encourages the listener to not give up on love because of past hurts. It suggests that love is worth taking a chance on and that it's possible to find love again. Overall, the lyrics of "Don't Look Back" remind us that love is a journey and it's important to take risks and face challenges together to move forward and find happiness.

Inspiring Video & Song. Thanks for sharing this Beautiful Gift.

I was SO LUCKY to have seen Charlie at the peak of their "fame"—in reality beloved by just a few fanatical fans like me at the time—in 1978 or so, just steps away from where I type now, at Café Campus in Montreal.
As a lifelong musician, I know whereof I speak, and that concert—unbelievably intimate, as they were in the same room all standing mere feet away from the audience, who were all sitting at tables enjoying drinks—was one of the most unforgettable concerts I have ever seen. Their musicianship was astounding, far, far better than even their records, and I knew as I listened to them that night that I was listening to possibly the most intense musical event I have ever and ever will experience.
They had an effect on my life as someone becoming an adult at the time as profound as any other that I have had before or since and for that I thank Terry Thomas and all his incredibly gifted bandmates who, if they are alive today, should know how beloved they once were and in my mind, still are.
