100 MILLION
Charlie Hilton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Those are the arms, beautiful when they hold me
Those are the words, poetry calls, it told me
I'm a willow, you can carve your name on me
We'll laugh about it at the bottom of the sea
These are the songs I'll never get to sing to you
Put them away, keep them until they ring true
I'm a fountain you can pure yourself in me
We'll laugh about it at the bottom of the sea

We drink the water
One day it hits the sand
We touch each other
One day we'll understand
We fall in love but we keep falling down, we
We fall right through a hundred million centuries

And that was the day you had me because I found you
These are the stars, perfect when they surround you
I'm a sparrow, can you hear my reverie
We'll laugh about it at the bottom of the sea

We drink the water
One day it hits the sand
We touch each other
One day we'll understand
We fall in love but we keep falling down, we
We fall right through a hundred million centuries

We drink the water
One day it hits the sand
We touch each other
One day we'll understand

We fall in love but we keep falling down, we
We fall right through a hundred million centuries

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Charlie Hilton's song "100 Million" express the idea that love is timeless and infinite, yet it can also be fleeting and fragile. Hilton uses powerful imagery throughout the song to describe the beauty and complexity of love. In the first verse, she expresses her admiration for her lover's arms, describing them as "beautiful when they hold me." She also references the power of poetry to convey the intensity of her feelings for her partner. The line "Those are the words, poetry calls, it told me" suggests that love is something that cannot be easily explained, but must instead be felt and experienced.

In the second verse, Hilton draws upon the imagery of water to describe the transience of love. She suggests that love is like water, in that it is constantly flowing and changing. The line "We drink the water, one day it hits the sand" suggests that love is something that we can never fully grasp or hold on to. Additionally, Hilton makes use of the metaphor of falling to describe the ups and downs of love. She acknowledges that while falling in love can be exhilarating, it can also be a precarious experience that leaves us feeling vulnerable and uncertain.

Overall, "100 Million" is a poignant meditation on the nature of love and human relationships. Hilton's powerful lyrics and evocative imagery offer a moving exploration of the joys and challenges of sharing our lives with others.

Null Verba

I just heard her for the first time in an Earthbound Trading Co. this week (our power was out so we decided to take a stroll in our dying local shopping mall) and had to Shazam it. It was all by pure chance, but her stuff hits all the right buttons in perfect sequence for me. This particular tune is maybe a bit like if Hope Sandoval grew up listening to nothing but The Pastels.

Heard everyday at work for 8 months as background music in Courtyard Marriott and never get tired of it.
