Love for Sale
Charlie Parker Lyrics

I'm in the mood for love
Simply because you're near me.
Funny, but when you're near me
I'm in the mood for love.

Heaven is in your eyes
Bright as the stars we're under
Oh! Is it any wonder
I'm in the mood for love?
Why stop to think of whether
This little dream might fade?
We've put our hearts together
Now we are one, I'm not afraid!

If there's a cloud above
If it should rain we'll let it
But for tonight, forget it!
I'm in the mood for love

This is one of the best straight ahead cuts I've heard by Bird. Perhaps it's the uncommon personnel, and guitar, but it's swingin' like never before. This Kotick kid on bass is nasty, mean, serious as hell. For some reason this cut sound MODERN, as if it was record
-ed yesterday. As legendary as Bird is, I'm impressed with this number, it has a 1960'ish sound. Bird Lives!

Everything Parker touches turns to gold. I've listened to so many version of this tune, but keep coming back here.

Hmm I prefer Canonball with Miles. It's just I believe Canonball practiced this tune a lot more than Bird.

Georgic Avanesian

For me..the best version of this tune..hands down.

Andrew Robertson

Georgic Avanesian You ever hear Dinah Washington sing it?

Thomas Krause

Very interesting, how Parker slows down his normal improvisation speed. The keys this song is composed in, are not so common even for tenor players. Also the complexity of Birds phrases are decreased. Just compare Bird's version with the solo of Canonball with Miles over this lovely song. This shows fine how the knowledge und basic technics improves in the long run over decades regarding improvisation. And today: Uhh the youngsters play all registers of their instruments in such bright intonation and high-speed, I really admire.

Christopher Brice

@Thomas Krause Agreed!
