The Hymn Pt. 1
Charlie Parker Lyrics

Listen to my tale of woe,
It's terribly sad but true,
All dressed up, no place to go
Each evening I'm awfully blue.

I must win some handsome guy
Can't go on like this,
I could blossom out I know,
With somebody just like you. So
Oh, sweet and lovely lady, be good
Oh, lady, be good to me
I am so awfully misunderstood
So lady, be good to me
Oh, please have some pity
I'm all-alone in this big city
I tell you I'm just a lonesome babe in the wood,
So lady be good to me.

Oh, please have some pity
I'm all alone in this big city
I tell you I'm just a lonesome babe in the wood,
So lady be good to me.
Oh lady be good to me.

The nickname Bird was most authentically derived as follows :McShanns band hit a chicken and Charlie insisted they pull over so he could get that 'yardbird'. At the next stop Parker arranged for the lady of the house to cook the chicken after they gutted it etc., Charlie Parker was titled Yardbird by McShann and the boys in the band after this. It stuck as it suited him perfectly, especially for his flying with ease capabilities on the alto sax. Thanks emencely for this 50s jazz fan !

His music was so awesome, check out the Ken Burns "Jazz" series, especially "risk", it's too bad that the booze & dope took him at such a young age, it's a lesson for us!!
