'taint Nobody's Business if I
Charlie Parker & Billie Holiday Lyrics
There ain't nothing I can do
Or nothing I can say
That folks don't criticize me
But I'm going to do
Just as I want to anyway
And don't care just what people say
If I should take a notion
To jump into the ocean
Ain't nobody's business if I do
If I go to church on Sunday
Then cabaret all day Monday
Ain't nobody's business if I do
If my man ain't got no money
And I say take all of mine, honey
Ain't nobody's business if I do
If I give him my last nickel
And it leaves me in a pickle
Ain't nobody's business if I do
Well, I'd rather my man would hit me
Than follow him to jump up and quit me
Ain't nobody's business if I do
I swear, I won't call no copper
If I'm beat up by my papa
Ain't nobody's business if I do
Nobody's business
Ain't nobody's business
Nobody's business if I do
Or nothing I can say
That folks don't criticize me
But I'm going to do
Just as I want to anyway
And don't care just what people say
If I should take a notion
To jump into the ocean
Ain't nobody's business if I do
If I go to church on Sunday
Then cabaret all day Monday
Ain't nobody's business if I do
If my man ain't got no money
And I say take all of mine, honey
Ain't nobody's business if I do
If I give him my last nickel
And it leaves me in a pickle
Ain't nobody's business if I do
Well, I'd rather my man would hit me
Than follow him to jump up and quit me
Ain't nobody's business if I do
I swear, I won't call no copper
If I'm beat up by my papa
Ain't nobody's business if I do
Nobody's business
Ain't nobody's business
Nobody's business if I do

Her voice was cracking and she still sounded great. No one sings like her. She's so unique.
@JohnOBurke
This is very late Billie, and her health was failing. The timing is still exquisite, but I prefer the earlier Billie. But it's still all great.
@KianiKings
She deserved more than anything she ever had, such a diamond...

No criticiism allowed! A wonderful interpreter and a beautiful heartfelt timbre. Her phrasing is immaculate. You always think "She's gonna be late" but she sails over the rhythm with consumate ease

Couldn't agree more. Listening to the later recordings is especially bitter sweet - some of the tone has gone, she sounds drugged BUT! the timing is even better - and yes I'm forever thinking 'she won't get the line out' and she does, every time, with what sounds like casual ease. Astonishing. I can't think of another performer who comes close though Bing and Sinatra try.

I knew Billie Holiday. The bass player in my band today worked with her in the 1950s in Philadelphia. She was always gracious to the musicians who backed her. As far as we are concerned, she was "Lady" Day in every sense of the word. And she could sing with the best of them even though her range was only 8 notes or so. Her inner beauty was apparent to all of us.

her voice is so painful and beautiful. there might be people that sing better than Billie but nobody sings it like Billie.
@honeybeemonique
