Enemy
Charlie Puth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I'm gonna fall
Will I promise me I'll always have a kingdom
Cause I, I have it all
But you're taking everyting I ever dreamed of

Oh, oh
I'm scared of you now
For putting me through this hell
Say it a-all
I'm feeling the doubt
I'm feeling I know too well

If I don't breath a little
Then I'm gonna end up lossing everything
If I don't breath a little
Then I'll end up being my own worst enemy

If I had a choice
I suppose I'd have to do it all over
Cause when I hear your voice
Part of me just wants to be a little closer

Oh, oh
I'm scared of you now
For putting me through this hell
Say it a-all
I'm feeling the doubt
I'm feeling I need too well

If I don't breath a little
Then I'm gonna end up lossing everything
If I don't breath a little
Then I'll end up being my own worst enemy

Oh, oh
I'm scared of you now
And not that you're searching words
Oh, oh
I'm feeling the doubt
Your face is just one big blur
If I don't breath a little
Then I'm gonna end up lossing everything
If I don't breath a little
Then I'll end up being my own worst enemy

If I don't breath a little
If I don't breath a little

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Charlie Puth's song "Enemy" describe a relationship that is causing the singer to feel scared, doubtful, and like they're losing everything. The first verse begins with the singer asking for a promise to always have their kingdom if they fall. This could be interpreted as wanting assurance that they will maintain their sense of self and control even if they are hurt or vulnerable. The second half of the verse suggests that the singer has everything they want, but it is being taken away by the other person.

The chorus talks about the importance of taking a breath, both literally and metaphorically, in order to avoid losing everything and becoming their own worst enemy. The second verse continues the theme of doubt and regret in the relationship, with the singer saying that they would do it all over again because part of them still wants to be closer to the other person. The bridge repeats the idea of being scared and doubtful, and how the other person's face is just a blur.

Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of turmoil and confusion in a relationship, with the singer struggling to maintain their own identity and avoid being consumed by their feelings for the other person.

Hallo Legacy

These lyrics convey a sense of vulnerability, fear, and inner turmoil. The speaker is expressing their concerns about a relationship or situation that is causing them distress. The first verse sets the tone, with the speaker asking for reassurance that they will still have a sense of stability and happiness despite the potential fall they may experience. They feel like they have everything they've ever dreamed of, but it's being taken away from them.

The pre-chorus reveals the speaker's fear and the emotional toll this situation is taking on them. They feel scared and are being put through a personal hell, experiencing doubts that are familiar to them.

The chorus emphasizes the importance of finding balance and taking care of oneself. The speaker recognizes that if they don't take a moment to breathe and find some relief, they risk losing everything they hold dear. There is a sense of internal struggle, as they realize that they might become their own worst enemy if they don't address their emotional state.

In the second verse, the speaker contemplates their choices and acknowledges that if given the chance, they would go through it all again. Despite the challenges they face, the sound of the person's voice pulls them closer, highlighting their conflicted emotions.

The bridge brings forth a sense of disillusionment and uncertainty. The speaker admits to being scared of the person they are addressing, feeling deceived because they aren't who they claimed to be. Their doubt is amplified, and the person's face becomes a blur, symbolizing the confusion and lack of clarity in the situation.

The chorus is repeated again, underscoring the urgency for the speaker to find balance and take a moment to breathe. It's a reminder that neglecting their well-being could lead to further personal losses.

The outro repeats the line "If I don't breathe a little," emphasizing the need for the speaker to find relief and regain their inner strength.

Overall, these lyrics explore themes of vulnerability, fear, self-doubt, and the struggle to maintain one's sense of self in the face of challenging circumstances.

Correct me if I’m wrong but this song sounds like it’s about dealing with anxiety to the point where you start doubting everything and don’t know how to control it.

Becoming your “own worst enemy”

Josep Campanyà

He expresses very well with originality, and in an interesting and intelligent way that the laborious part of him is in conflict with the part of him caring about health and wellness, expressing perfectly the situation he is confronting as an artist. The rythm and musicality are great as well. I personally find this piece excellent. Though I don't like electro very much.

LOLODILE

Electro is everything in this song
