There Won't Be Anymore
Charlie Rich Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't wait for the postman
If you're looking for a letter from me
There won't be anymore
There won't be anymore

And don't sit by your telephone
If you're waiting on a call from me
There won't be anymore
There won't be anymore

Don't think of the love we had
'Til you turned bad
And broke my loving heart in two
And when your heart is breaking
And you need some loving from me
There won't be anymore
There won't be anymore

Don't think of the love we had
'Til you turned bad
And broke my loving heart in two
And when your heart is breaking
And you need some loving from me
There won't be anymore
There won't be anymore

It won't be like before
It just won't won't be anymore

Overall Meaning

In "There Won't Be Anymore," Charlie Rich is addressing someone who has hurt him deeply. The verses are a message to this person, telling them not to wait for a letter or phone call from him because there won't be any more communication between them. Despite the pain and heartbreak that this person caused him, the singer still has feelings for them. However, he is resolved to let go of those feelings and move forward, which is reflected in the repeated line "There won't be anymore."

The chorus is particularly powerful because of the repetition. By repeating the phrase "There won't be anymore," Rich is driving home the finality of his decision. He's drawing a line in the sand and telling this person that their relationship is over. The verse about not thinking of the love they had until the other person turned bad is also significant because it shows that the singer is wrestling with their own emotions. He's acknowledging that there was love between them at one point, but he's also recognizing that things went sour and there's no coming back from that.

Overall, "There Won't Be Anymore" is a song about painful endings and the difficulty of letting go. However, it's also a song about finding the strength to move forward and start anew.

Everything that Charlie sings is a winner - he can sing a ballad like no other. I love this song. I agree with him about not liking who was presented the award as Entertainer of the Year (in Country Music). Too often now some of the newer artists want to get their foot in the door of country music and then when they get a break they don't want to be labled as just country. Are there truly any actual love songs anymore that do sound romantic? Thanks for posting this. - Paula
