The Parachutes Songfacts states that Charlie Simpson has a strong musical pedigree dating back to one of his mother's ancestors, Sir William Sterndale Bennett (1816-1875), who was a distinguished classical music composer of the romantic school. Charlie attended public school Uppingham, along with the likes of Harry Judd from McFly and his ex-girlfriend Camilla Smith. He was selected as the third member of Busted, beating Tom Fletcher (now lead singer and guitarist in McFly), after responding to an advert placed by Matt and James in NME magazine in 2001. He plays guitar, piano, drums and bass, and sings vocals.
He is renowned for his distinguished eyebrows, which he says are "...the biggest and best in the business", and his guitar playing style. He loves Nirvana and The Deftones and considers Kurt Cobain his idol.
On 14 January 2005, Charlie caused Busted to split after deciding to leave the band to concentrate on his other band, Fightstar. The name "Fightstar" was created when bassist Dan Haigh came up with the name "Evenstar" and Charlie thought of the name "A Time To Fight", these names were combined to give the name Fightstar.
Following three studio albums, Fightstar initiated an extended hiatus in 2010, allowing Simpson to focus on his solo career. Parachutes, the lead single from his debut solo full-length album entitled Young Pilgrim, was released on August 15, 2011.
He met the other guys in the band through Camilla when Alex's sister moved in with her as a flatmate, and Fightstar was born. He has two other brothers who are also in bands, Will in Brigade and Edd in Union Sound Set (formerly Prego); both have supported Fightstar on recent tours/gigs.

Can we sleep this off in the lost and found?
I guess we had no idea there would be no sound
When the guns went off and we hit the ground
Singing out oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
They were long days they were long days
Singing out oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Were haunted from what we've seen
Another force to cause emergency
Our paper hearts are folding
And torn apart as we hold them
What do we do this for?
What do we do this for?
What do we do this for?
We were born together we'll die together
Were haunted from what we've seen
We were born together we'll die together
14 years since I've left this town
How can you love me when I'm not around?
I guess we've seen this all through the devils eyes
When the darkness falls and the vultures rise
Singing out oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
They were long days they were long days
Singing out oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
They were long days with the ghost who left me
Were haunted from what we've seen
Another force to cause emergency
Our paper hearts are folding
And torn apart as we hold them
What do we do this for?
What do we do this for?
What do we do this for?
We were born together we'll die together
Were haunted from what we've seen
We were born together we'll die together
Something changed in us
In the arms of sinners
We were forged in the fire that we had within us
Something changed in us
In the arms of sinners
We were forged in the fire that we had within us
Were haunted from what we've seen
Another force to cause emergency
Our paper hearts are folding
And torn apart as we hold them
What do we do this for?
What do we do this for?
What do we do this for?
We were born together we'll die together
What do we do this for?
What do we do this for?
What do we do this for?
We were born together we'll die together
We were born together we'll die together
Born together we'll die together
Born together we'll die together
Born together we'll die together
Born together we'll die together
Born together we'll die together
Born together we'll die together
The song "Haunted" by Charlie Simpson is a haunting tale of the aftermath of a traumatic event. The lyrics reflect the pain, confusion, and sense of loss experienced by the singer, as he grapples with the aftermath of a tragedy that has left him haunted. The haunting, ethereal melody of the song adds to the eerie quality of the lyrics.
The opening lines of the song, "Four whole years is a long way down, Can we sleep this off in the lost and found?" convey a sense of disorientation and desperation. The singer seems to be lost in time, struggling to come to terms with the passage of time and the fallout from a traumatic event. The repeated refrain, "Singing out oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh," conveys a sense of longing and sadness.
The chorus of the song, "We were born together we'll die together, Were haunted from what we've seen," captures the sense of unity and shared experience between the singer and those who have been affected by the tragedy. The singer is haunted by what he has experienced and what he has lost, but he is not alone. The haunting melody of the chorus underscores the sense of loss and sorrow that the singer is feeling.
Overall, "Haunted" is a powerful and poignant song that conveys a sense of loss, mourning, and the haunting effects of trauma.

Charlie, you're such an inspiration. Literally every project you've been a part of, I've been a fan. You're probably one of the biggest reasons I took up music. And I have to say, it seems like you've found yourself and your style in this solo work you've been doing. In love with this song.
