In 2007, Charlie Winston released his self produced debut album “Make Way” and shortly after embarked on tour with Peter Gabriel on European Summer tour.
Charlie also composed music for film (The Day I will Never Forget by Kim Longinotto), theatre (Almeida Theatre, Nottinghill Gate Theatre), dance (Sadler's Wells, Ballet Rambert) and has often appeared in various TV (Top Of The Pops, Good Morning TV, CD UK) and radio shows (The Steve Merchant Show on BBC 6Music, Spanish Radio 3 with Julio Ruiz, BBC Radio with Stephen Foster).
In Charlie Winston's band, the Oxymorons, harmonica plays devil's advocate within moods, from dirty blues riffs to ethereal angelic cries, meanwhile bass, drums and guitar lay the ground rules, only to be broken. To add to it the Extramorons brass quartet puff their way to a sound that’s carnivalesque. There is an overriding positivity throughout every performance that leaves the audience wanting to dance, laugh and cry all in the same breath.

My Name
Charlie Winston Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm gonna hide my eyes from your crimson sin
No sacrife can make atonement again
The blood is on your hands: You should be ashamed
You won't forget my name!
You won't forget my name!
Take your final step and plummet over the edge
You listened to the snake! I won't take any blame
Now here's my breath in your face,
I leave you up in flames.
You won't forget my name!
You won't forget my name!
Behold! The angel's singing sweet
For righteousness; a cry!
He sings for you so tenderly:
"Apple of my eye!"
Stay right where you are;
Don't be foolish to try any courageous moves
You won't be saving lives
I didn't do all I've done for you to put me to shame
Now in your final hour my legacy remains
You won't forget my name!
You won't forget my name!
Behold! The angel's singing sweet
For righteousness; a cry!
He sings for you so tenderly:
"Apple of my eye!"
The lyrics of Charlie Winston's song "My Name" create an eerie, dark atmosphere of a confrontation between two people, one who seems to have some power over the other. The first verse starts with a bold statement "I won't apologise for the mess that you're in," suggesting that the person has caused harm to the other. The next lines, "I'm gonna hide my eyes from your crimson sin, no sacrifice can make atonement again," imply that the other person has committed some unforgivable act and that there is no way to make up for it. The chorus is a haunting repetition of "You won't forget my name!", indicating that the singer wants the other person to remember the impact they have had.
The second verse takes a threatening tone, "So now I say goodbye and this to you, I pledge: take your final step and plummet over the edge." The lines "you listened to the snake, I won't take any blame, now here's my breath in your face, I leave you up in flames" suggest that the other person has been manipulated by someone, and now the singer is taking revenge. The chorus repeats, emphasizing the lingering impact of the singer's actions.
The final verse introduces an angel singing sweetly, "for righteousness; a cry!" as if watching the confrontation between the two people. The singer warns the other person not to try any courageous moves and accuses them of trying to put them to shame. The final lines, "now in your final hour my legacy remains, you won't forget my name!" solidify the idea that the singer wants to be remembered for their powerful impact, no matter what cost.
