In 2007, Charlie Winston released his self produced debut album “Make Way” and shortly after embarked on tour with Peter Gabriel on European Summer tour.
Charlie also composed music for film (The Day I will Never Forget by Kim Longinotto), theatre (Almeida Theatre, Nottinghill Gate Theatre), dance (Sadler's Wells, Ballet Rambert) and has often appeared in various TV (Top Of The Pops, Good Morning TV, CD UK) and radio shows (The Steve Merchant Show on BBC 6Music, Spanish Radio 3 with Julio Ruiz, BBC Radio with Stephen Foster).
In Charlie Winston's band, the Oxymorons, harmonica plays devil's advocate within moods, from dirty blues riffs to ethereal angelic cries, meanwhile bass, drums and guitar lay the ground rules, only to be broken. To add to it the Extramorons brass quartet puff their way to a sound that’s carnivalesque. There is an overriding positivity throughout every performance that leaves the audience wanting to dance, laugh and cry all in the same breath.

Tongue Tied
Charlie Winston Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
How d'you say I'm happy? Estoy feliz contigo? No! No!
Désolé, mon français est un petit peu confus
Parce que tout le temps si j'essaie
Hablo poco spanish - another stupid English boy!
Anyway, if I say 'si j'essaie' donc I do.
Je voudrais que tu saches en français:
I gotta whole lotta love on the tip of my tongue
But the words won't come like I want them to come
I'm like Old Mother Hubbord getting lost in her cupboard
And I think I'm loosing you
mmmh
Second go, take it slow, it's not the end of the world
Enfin bon, ça c'est bon, ce n'est pas la fin du monde.
Mais il y a quelque chose que je voudrais te dire -
Listen up! écoute! Important!
Te quiero mucho. La chica mas linda
Oh no! That's español!
I gotta whole lotta love on the tip of my tongue
But the words won't come like I want them to come
I'm like Old Mother Hubbord getting lost in her cupboard
And I think I'm loosing you
So give me one more chance let me try to explain
I've got the words in my heart
But not in my brain
And now I'm all tongue tied
But at least I tried
To build a little bridge to you
In a moment of weakness I give up on the romance
And I fall for a cliché but without thinking I say
"Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?"
But you turn your back
And back with a slap!
I gotta whole lotta love on the tip of my tongue
But the words won't come like I want them to come
I'm like Old Mother Hubbord getting lost in her cupboard
And I think I'm loosing you
So give me one more chance let me try to explain
So give me one more chance let me try to explain
And I have my whole tongue tied
But at least I tried
To build a little bridge to you
I'm gonna be a little breach to you
I'll be a little breach to you
The song "Tongue Tied" by Charlie Winston tells the story of a man who is trying to express his love to a woman but finds himself struggling with language barriers. The song takes place in France, with the singer attempting to speak French and Spanish to convey his feelings of love. The lyrics represent the difficulty of communication in relationships and the fear of losing someone due to misunderstandings.
The first verse portrays the singer attempting to speak French, but struggling with the language. He incorrectly says "Estoy feliz contigo" which is Spanish for "I'm happy with you". He then apologizes and says his French is a little confusing, and he often speaks Spanish by mistake because he is just another stupid English boy. The chorus, "I gotta whole lotta love on the tip of my tongue, But the words won't come like I want them to come," represents the feeling of being tongue-tied, unable to articulate one's emotions.
In the second verse, the singer attempts to speak Spanish, but again struggles with the language. He does manage to say "Te quiero mucho," meaning "I love you very much," but quickly realizes that he has slipped into Spanish once again. He then tries to use a common phrase, "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?" which means "Do you want to sleep with me tonight?" This results in the woman turning her back and walking away.
Overall, the lyrics of "Tongue Tied" convey the difficulty of expressing love and the fear of losing someone despite one's best attempts to communicate.
