In 2007, Charlie Winston released his self produced debut album “Make Way” and shortly after embarked on tour with Peter Gabriel on European Summer tour.
Charlie also composed music for film (The Day I will Never Forget by Kim Longinotto), theatre (Almeida Theatre, Nottinghill Gate Theatre), dance (Sadler's Wells, Ballet Rambert) and has often appeared in various TV (Top Of The Pops, Good Morning TV, CD UK) and radio shows (The Steve Merchant Show on BBC 6Music, Spanish Radio 3 with Julio Ruiz, BBC Radio with Stephen Foster).
In Charlie Winston's band, the Oxymorons, harmonica plays devil's advocate within moods, from dirty blues riffs to ethereal angelic cries, meanwhile bass, drums and guitar lay the ground rules, only to be broken. To add to it the Extramorons brass quartet puff their way to a sound that’s carnivalesque. There is an overriding positivity throughout every performance that leaves the audience wanting to dance, laugh and cry all in the same breath.

Unlike Me
Charlie Winston Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Picking up no one ever sees, memories take a toll
Old wounds never go, look and see, find a way
Anyway way to be safer in your skin
Try to stay cool, keep low, let go, nowhere left to run
Breakdown, rain dogs, freak clouds, no words
Secretly you'll be your own worst enemy
You better find someone
You better find someone
You better find someone
Unlike me
Happiness has a home, have a guess where it is
Have you ever been to see pain and pleasure together?
Some say they play, take turns each day
To make sweat happiness
Don't start big heart, don't cry little fly
Buzzing around your heads
In time you'll find it's all behind you
All said, all done, who loves the sun
Shining ever more? Shining ever more
You better find someone
You better find someone
You better find someone
Unlike me
You better find someone
You better find someone
You better find someone
Unlike me
The lyrics to "Unlike Me" by Charlie Winston are about the struggles and challenges of dealing with one's inner turmoil and pain. Winston sings about the constant battle of trying to keep it together day to day, while picking up the pieces of memories that take a toll on one's soul. He acknowledges that old wounds never really heal, but there's always a way to find safety within one's skin. The lyrics paint a picture of someone who's trying to stay cool and keep it low, but their struggles ultimately catch up to them, resulting in a breakdown.
Winston also delves into the idea that happiness and pain can coexist, as they take turns giving life meaning. The line "have you ever been to see pain and pleasure together?" is a reminder that life is a constant cycle of ups and downs. The lyrics also suggest that in the end, you're your own worst enemy and blaming others won't help you overcome your struggles. The chorus "You better find someone, Unlike me" is an admission that Winston is not the one who can help you overcome your struggles, but there are those who can.
