Charlotte Church Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hark! The herald angels sing,
'Glory to the new born King;
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled.'
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th'angelic host proclaim,
'Christ is born in Bethlehem!'

Hark! The herald angels sing,
'Glory to the new born King!'

Christ, by highest heav'n adored,
Christ the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of a virgin's womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
Hail th'incarnate Deity!
Pleased as Man with man to dwell;
Jesus, our Immanuel!

Hark! The herald angels sing, etc.

Choir
Hail, the heav'nly Prince of Peace!
Hail, the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris'n with healing in His wings.
Mild He leaves His throne on high,
Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth;
Born to give them sencond birth.

Hark! The herald angels sing, etc.

Come, Desire of nations, come,
Fix in us Thy humble home;
Oh, to all Thyself impart,
Formed in each believing heart!
Hark! The herald angels sing,
'Glory to the new-born King;
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled.'

Hark! The herald angels sing, etc.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Charlotte Church's rendition of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" describe the joyous occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. The song begins with the angels proclaiming "Glory to the new-born King" as a message of peace and mercy to all nations. This is an announcement of the reconciliation of God with sinners, and the triumph of this birth is declared by the angelic host. Through this, it is revealed that Christ is born in Bethlehem.

The song then describes the divine nature of Jesus Christ, who is adored by the highest heavens as the everlasting Lord. It goes on to describe His birth as the result of a virgin birth, veiled in flesh, as the Godhead made human. The song praises Jesus as the Prince of Peace and the Son of Righteousness, bringing light and life to all, with healing in His wings.

The final verse is a call for Jesus to come and make a home in the hearts of believers. In doing so, he brings mercy, peace, and reconciliation between God and man. The song ends with a repetition of the proclamation of "Glory to the new-born King" by the choir.

Not sure how Charlotte is today, but the younger Charlotte was always a joy to watch. She had such a nice stage demeanor and always seemed to give her best in her concerts. She also always looked like she really enjoyed it. Bravo!
