Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Charlotte Church Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hark! The herald the angels sing
'Glory to the new born King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With th'angelic host proclaim
'Christ is born in Bethlehem!'

Hark! The herald angels sing
'Glory to the new born King!'
Christ, by highest heav'n adored
Christ, the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail th'incarnate Deity!
Pleased as Man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel!

Hark! The herald angels sing..etc.
Hail, the heav'nly Prince of peace!
Hail, the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He leaves His throne on high
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth

Hark! The herald angels sing, etc
Come, Desire of nations, come
Fix in us Thy humble home
Oh, to all Thyself impart
Formed in each believing heart!
Hark! The herald angels sing
'Glory to the new-born King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled

Hark! The herald angels sing...etc.

Overall Meaning

In the song, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," Charlotte Church captures the traditional Christmas hymn's message about the birth of Jesus Christ. The song starts with the joyous message that the angels are singing loudly in honor of the newborn King, calling upon all the nations to join in. The angels are announcing that Christ is born in Bethlehem, proclaiming that there will be "peace on earth and mercy mild" as God and sinners reconcile. The second stanza of the song is about the birth of Christ, who is adored by the highest heavens and the everlasting Lord. Jesus is born from a virgin's womb and is pleased to dwell among humankind.

The third stanza praises Jesus as the heavenly Prince of Peace and the Son of Righteousness. He brings light and life to all and rises with healing in His wings. The final stanza is a request for the coming of the Desire of Nations, asking for Him to fix Himself in the believers' hearts, imparting Himself to all. The song concludes with the repeated chorus of the angels, proclaiming the glory of the newborn King and peace on earth.

Not sure how Charlotte is today, but the younger Charlotte was always a joy to watch. She had such a nice stage demeanor and always seemed to give her best in her concerts. She also always looked like she really enjoyed it. Bravo!
