Gainsbourg made her motion picture debut playing Catherine Deneuve's daughter in the film Paroles et musique (1984). In 1986, Gainsbourg won a César Award for "Most Promising Actress" for L'effrontée, and, in 2000, she won "Best Supporting Actress" for the film La Bûche.
Gainsbourg made her musical debut with her father on the song "Lemon Incest" in 1984. Two years later, she released her debut album Charlotte for Ever, which was produced by her father.
In 2007, Gainsbourg appeared alongside Gael Garcia Bernal in Michel Gondry's La Science des rêves and as Claire in the Todd Haynes directed Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, also contributing a cover of the Dylan song "Just Like A Woman" to the film's soundtrack.
In 2006, Gainsbourg released her second album 5:55 to critical acclaim and commercial success, reaching the top spot on the French charts and achieving platinum status in the country. In the UK, the album was moderately successful, reaching #78 (The single The Songs That We Sing only made #129).
Gainsbourg has recently released her third studio album, IRM, which was produced by Beck. One of the influential factors in the album's creative process was her time spent filming Antichrist.

Aviation
Chocolate
Perfume
Cigarettes
Frequent flyer
Stow away
Dislocation
Jets
Wave goodbye
Feel homesick
Tranquilizers
Bill of fare
Cry easy
Dvt
Disappear into thin air
We wish you all a very happy pleasant flight
This is a journey to the center of the night
And the in flight entertainment's out of sight
Here on AF 607105
Time difference
You're waking
Chase the sun into your eyes
Sleeping cities
Dust hotel rooms
Passengers look to the skies
Fly over
Your lifetime
And never touching down
My heart
Is breaking
Somewhere over Saskatchewan
We wish you all a very happy pleasant flight
This is a journey to the center of the night
And the in flight entertainment's out of sight
Here on AF 607105
Your life in
The wrong hands
Savannah and frozen wastes
The flight path
The wingspan
Below the earth rotates
I love you
I miss you
I cannot see your face
Invent a
New persona
Drunk here on the edge of space
All the things I carry with me
And all the things I left behind
And all the things that wait to meet me
Hover in the air tonight
If I can only keep on moving
And never stop and think of me
And free fall through the years and decades
Terminal velocity
We hope you had a very happy pleasant flight
This is our final destination so goodnight
Like a stone we are now falling from the sky
Farewell from AF 607105
The cabin
Is burning
I smile and feel complete
Here amongst
Total strangers
27 000 feet
Suspended
Isolation
Kids throw toy planes in the street
One final
Blaze of glory

The lyrics of "AF607105," a song by Charlotte Gainsbourg, provide a poetic portrayal of the experience of air travel. The opening lines of "Melancholy, aviation, chocolate, perfume, cigarettes, frequent flyer, stow away, dislocation, sleeping, jets" set the tone for the song. It is about the emotional experience and the physical sensations of traveling by air. The song weaves in and out of different themes, such as homesickness, time difference, and the passing of time while in flight.
The song speaks to the challenges of air travel, both in the past and the present. The lyrics "Wave goodbye, Feel homesick, Tranquilizers, Bill of fare" suggest that the singer is feeling overwhelmed by the experience of leaving home and facing the unknown. The song also touches on the danger of air travel, such as deep vein thrombosis or the possibility of disappearing into thin air.
The song is a reflection of the emotional range that a person can experience when they travel by air. It is not only about the experience of flying but also about the emotional and psychological impact travel can have on a person. At its core, "AF607105" is a commentary on the human experience of air travel and how it shapes our understanding of the world around us.
