Gainsbourg made her motion picture debut playing Catherine Deneuve's daughter in the film Paroles et musique (1984). In 1986, Gainsbourg won a César Award for "Most Promising Actress" for L'effrontée, and, in 2000, she won "Best Supporting Actress" for the film La Bûche.
Gainsbourg made her musical debut with her father on the song "Lemon Incest" in 1984. Two years later, she released her debut album Charlotte for Ever, which was produced by her father.
In 2007, Gainsbourg appeared alongside Gael Garcia Bernal in Michel Gondry's La Science des rêves and as Claire in the Todd Haynes directed Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, also contributing a cover of the Dylan song "Just Like A Woman" to the film's soundtrack.
In 2006, Gainsbourg released her second album 5:55 to critical acclaim and commercial success, reaching the top spot on the French charts and achieving platinum status in the country. In the UK, the album was moderately successful, reaching #78 (The single The Songs That We Sing only made #129).
Gainsbourg has recently released her third studio album, IRM, which was produced by Beck. One of the influential factors in the album's creative process was her time spent filming Antichrist.
Tel que tu es
Charlotte Gainsbourg Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
que tu n'es pas presse
ton corps se balance
sans importance
tel que tu es
sans dire un mot,
sans effort tu te moques
de temps en temps
tel que tu es
tu ne sais pas
ce que l'on dit de toi
tu t'en fous surtout
n'y change rien
tel que tu es
no one can tell
what you say or do next
are you blessed%3f
maybe by me sometimes
come as you are
The lyrics to Charlotte Gainsbourg's song "Tel que tu es" depict a person who is carefree, indifferent to the opinions of others, and unapologetically themselves. The first four lines of the song describe this person's nonchalant body language as they depart without haste or importance. The next set of lines describe how effortlessly this person disregards their surroundings and everything else around them, exemplifying how they are comfortable in their own skin. The song even suggests that this person is unaware of what others say about them, and they don't care whether there are any negative or positive comments. Finally, the last few lines suggest that the person's unpredictability is sometimes seen as a positive rather than a negative, and the song ends with an invitation to come as they are.
"Tel que tu es" is a song about self-acceptance, a common theme in many of Charlotte Gainsbourg's songs. She wrote and performed the song with Beck, an American musician who is no stranger to blending various genres together. The song is included in Gainsbourg's fifth studio album, Rest (2017), an album that she dedicated to her late father, Serge Gainsbourg. Rest does not follow the typical formulaic melodies of pop music, and instead, the album is a collection of songs with artistic metaphors and intimate lyrics.

Mon Dieu que c'est beau. Depuis le tout premier album avec papa, il n'y a pas un seul titre qui ne soit pas un chef-d'œuvre. Merci
