On May 14th 2010 Charlotte independently released an EP entitled "Sideways", which was digitally released online for free.
Before becoming a pop singer, Charlotte was involved in dance for 13 years until her early teens when she finished her involvement with the art due to pressures on being thin, "ditching her leotard for a guitar"; citing that she would much rather create her own art than portray that of someone else.
Although her name itself bears resemblance to The Cure's song of the same name, it is in actuality based on the 1969 children's novel of the same name written by Penelope Farmer, which portrays a young girl named Charlotte who exchanges places in time with another girl from 1918. The conceit of the story being they must find how to live each other's lives whilst remaining undiscovered in that time. The reason for Charlotte choosing the name aside from the book was that it represents the struggle with her self-perception and perception by others.

AEIOU
Charlotte Sometimes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I said I wasn't sure why I take time to talk to ya, boy
I saw her call your phone I secretly looked but you knew all along
And Blue Birds didn't sing, so replace my tears with a ring
Go the distance if you please
'Cause your touches are a tease and if you really want me.
Mister please don't waste my time
Here it comes
Boy, I tell you
A E I O U losers with their fiction
A E I O U must be an addiction
A E I O U you say, "I see myself in you,"
But you ain't hittin' nothin' with your woe
You called me the other day you said my head was sweet yet cruel
I laughed the whole way through, don't you see the problem is you?
I tried to shop for shoes, you raped my tired head for answers
Chased me down the street, I still don't think the problem is me
Go the distance if you please
'Cause your touches are a tease and if you really
Want me.
Mister please don't waste my time
Wasn't made to hear you whine
Here it comes, boy, I tell you
A E I O U losers with their fiction
A E I O U must be an addiction
A E I O U you say, "I see myself in you,"
But you ain't hittin' nothin' with your woe
Charlotte Sometimes's song AEIOU reflects the struggle of a girl who is tired of the empty promises of her lover. She narrates her experience with a boy who keeps asking her out, and she eventually gives in, but the relationship is not fulfilling. The boy keeps giving her shallow compliments and meaningless touches that do little to prove his love. The girl sees through his actions and realizes that he is wasting her time. She recounts a time when the boy complimented her hair, but she was not sure why she bothered to talk to him. She also mentions how she saw a call from another girl on his phone, and he knew she knew, but he did nothing to reassure her. She feels alone and helpless, and as a result, she finds comfort in replacing her tears with a ring.
The chorus of the song, "AEIOU," is symbolic and emphasizes the emptiness of the relationship. The vowels A, E, I, O, and U represent the different stages of a relationship. The losers with their fiction signify that everything the boy has said and done is inconsequential. The addiction to empty promises and meaningless touches is a prevalent theme in the chorus. The girl knows that the relationship is not healthy or wholesome, but she is addicted to the feeling of being in a relationship. The boy keeps telling her that he sees himself in her, but his words are meaningless, and he is not hitting anything with his woe.
Overall, the song is a powerful message about the struggles of a girl who is forced to deal with a shallow relationship. It emphasizes the addictiveness of empty promises and how they can lead to a feeling of emptiness and loneliness.
