On May 14th 2010 Charlotte independently released an EP entitled "Sideways", which was digitally released online for free.
Before becoming a pop singer, Charlotte was involved in dance for 13 years until her early teens when she finished her involvement with the art due to pressures on being thin, "ditching her leotard for a guitar"; citing that she would much rather create her own art than portray that of someone else.
Although her name itself bears resemblance to The Cure's song of the same name, it is in actuality based on the 1969 children's novel of the same name written by Penelope Farmer, which portrays a young girl named Charlotte who exchanges places in time with another girl from 1918. The conceit of the story being they must find how to live each other's lives whilst remaining undiscovered in that time. The reason for Charlotte choosing the name aside from the book was that it represents the struggle with her self-perception and perception by others.

This Is Only For Now
Charlotte Sometimes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Here I am, A solid box for now.
This is only for now
But I'm not so sure.
Seems the bugs hit the windshield
More than ever before, spinning doubt.
You know that you want to
Here I am, insecure for now.
This is only for now
But I'm not so sure.
Seems the bugs hit the windshield
More than ever before, spinning doubt
I know that you want to
You know that you want to
The smell of the matches
The weight of this floor
The way that your hair says
"You don't need me anymore."
I know that you want to
You know that you want to
This is only for now
But I'm not so sure
Seems the bugs hit the windshield
More than ever before, spinning doubt.
The lyrics of Charlotte Sometimes's song, "This Is Only For Now," depict a sense of vulnerability and insecurity. In the first verse, the singer describes herself as gullible and a solid box, implying that she is easily influenced and perhaps closed off emotionally. However, she acknowledges that this state of being is temporary, indicating that she is aware of her own personal growth and potential to change.
Throughout the song, the singer expresses a sense of uncertainty and doubt, represented by the bugs hitting the windshield. This metaphor could symbolize the obstacles and challenges of life that can throw us off course, causing us to question ourselves and our relationships. Despite this, the singer expresses a desire to be wanted and needed by someone, even as she acknowledges the impermanence of the present moment.
The lyrics also mention the smell of matches, the weight of the floor and the way that hair can convey a message. These sensory details add richness and depth to the song, perhaps representing the ways in which we can use our senses to ground ourselves during difficult times.
Overall, "This Is Only For Now" is a poignant reminder of our temporary nature in the world, but also a testament to our ability to overcome challenges and grow as individuals.
