Superhéroes
Charly García Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Estás buscando direcciones
En libros para cocinar
Estás mezclando el dulce con la sal.
Vas procurando informaciones
En unas cajas de metal
Estás comprando al mundo en un bazar.
Mirando superhéroes, superstars
Te sientes superloca, supermal.
Veo las sirvientas en la plaza
Vestidas para enamorar
Viviendo cien años de soledad.
No pasa nada, nadie pasa
Sólo una banda militar
Desafinando el tiempo y el compás.
Y entonces mírame a mí
Tratando que se muevan éstos pies
Bajo la luz, tocando hasta el amanecer.
No te quedes en casa
Porque el baile va a empezar
Quiero verte, verte otra vez.
Y entonces mírame a mí
Tratando que se muevan éstos pies
Bajo la luz, tocando hasta el amanecer.
No te quedes en casa
Porque el baile va a empezar

Quiero verte,
Verte otra vez.

Overall Meaning

In Charly García's song "Superhéroes," the singer critiques society's obsession with materialism and superficiality. He sings about how people are looking for directions in books on cooking, blending sweet and salty, and seeking information in metal boxes. In essence, people are trying to buy the world in a bazaar, looking at superheroes and superstars, and feeling supercrazy and superbad. The singer contrasts this with the simple lives of the maids in the plaza, dressed to enamorar (enchant), but living a life of solitude. The only movement in this stagnant world is the military band playing out of tune.

Then the singer calls for action, asking the listener to come to dance because the party is starting. He talks about a monster with a wig, a part-owner of this crazy city, who dances with the band on the route, but in truth steals their gold and gives them just prostitutes. The ashes of their brief carnival are cleared, and they are headed to another city. The singer concludes by again urging the listener to dance, to move their feet under the light, playing until dawn, and not to stay at home.

The song portrays the sadness and isolation of a society obsessed with the superficial trappings of success and materialism. The superheroes that the singer talks about, who are supposed to save the world, have abandoned society, leaving everyone alone with their obsessions. The song suggests that there is more to life than buying things and superficial appearances.

on Los Dinosaurios

Neighborhood friends can be kidnapped at any time.

Popular singers can be kidnapped.

Famous people can be kidnapped.

The person we love deeply can be kidnapped.

People on television can be kidnapped on air.

People on the streets can be kidnapped in the street.

But the army is going to disappear.

I'm not at ease, my love.

It's Saturday night.

A friend is in jail. (It is likely to be tortured or disappear, they can link me to him, I can be next).

Oh my love.

The world is disappearing.

If troublesome people were killed, tortured and raped.

Oh, my love, I wish I had not caused trouble.

When everything is terrible

It is better not to have emotional attachments

Imagine the militaries in prison.

Juan

on Los Dinosaurios

Charly García's "los dinosaurios" is a song about Argentina's bloodiest military dictatorship. The song expresses the suffering and fear for the more than 40,000 disappeared. Anyone, for any reason, could be kidnapped. Most of them were never found.

Airborne things, such as planes or balloons, can disappear without a trace.

"those on the air" refers to people who are in the media giving "live" news.
