Their First tour was cut short by a terrible accident involving their tour van and a truck full of cinderblocks, resulting in their guitar player John being flown to a Pennsylvania area hospital for immediate open heart surgery which saved his life. Refusing to bow to adversity, the band returned home and after a short break began recording their second full-length album entitled Headed for a Breakdown. Released on Punk Core in late 2004, Headed for a Breakdown established the band as an institution and showcased the talent and diverse songwriting ability that has earned them their status as the leaders of the pack. Over the next year Cheap Sex would continue to gig while writing the fourteen songs that comprise their third album Written in Blood, released on Punk Core in June 2006. With the same unique mix of hardcore punk and socially-pertinent lyrics that made Cheap Sex a punk rock household name, Written in Blood unleashes the bands most aggressive and uncompromising material to date.
Paranoia
Cheap Sex Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's their motive - they're out to get me.
Who is listening on the phone
I'm afraid to be alone
I got 3 locks on my front door
A hidden motive is in store
[Chorus:]
It is taking over me
Paranoia takes its toll
Now my mind has lost all control
It's all a conspiracy
They're out, they're out to get me.
The lyrics of Cheap Sex's song Paranoia expresses the fear and paranoia of being constantly monitored and targeted. The singer is convinced that someone is always watching and listening to him, searching for a secret plan to harm him. This paranoia has led to extreme measures like having three locks on his front door, which shows that he feels unsafe even in his own house. The singer's fear of being alone and the suspicion of hidden motives in others' actions indicate the level of his distress.
The chorus of the song repeats the theme of paranoia, suggesting that it is taking over the singer's mind and causing him to lose control. The use of the word "conspiracy" also hints at a larger and more sinister plot against the singer. The song's lyrics speak to the intense anxiety and feeling of powerlessness that can arise when someone believes they are the target of a vast, unknown enemy.
Overall, the song Paranoia by Cheap Sex is a powerful commentary on the psychological toll that constantly feeling under threat can take. It highlights the anxiety and fear that surrounds the concept of paranoia and the ways in which it can consume one's thoughts and psychological wellbeing.
