Their debut self-titled CD is a no-budget self-produced record, but it sounds more powerful and groovy than lots of all major hits. Due to the felicitous combination of catchy melodies, absurd lyrics, the intricate work with samples and unusual meow-style vocal by Olya Chubarova, the band now has all the chances to become a first international independent hit-breaker from Russia since TaTu.
Some reviewers have compared Cheese People' music with Cansei de Ser Sexy, Datarock or New Young Pony Club – and it's really hard to believe (but it's true) that all of these tracks have been recorded in 2006, when Anton and Olya had absolutely no chance to hear these bands – actually, Cheese People have been influenced by Prodigy, Gloria Gaynor, Jamiroquai and other mainstream stuff.
Fortunately, Cheese People don't waste their time anymore and already seek for an international partnership – the Japanese edition of their debut CD (with a bonus-remix by Gari) is out 17.08.2009 at FabTone Records. The next LP is due to be finished and released later this year.

The lyrics of Cheese People's song "Open My Eyes" are quite abstract and open to interpretation. The song could be referring to a dream-like state, where the singer is experiencing strange and surreal things. The first stanza begins with the singer opening their eyes and seeing mice running around in their bed. However, they claim not to be sad about it and instead are lying in their own cloud, observing their surroundings. The mention of the sun shining bright in the sky highlights the surreal nature of the song, as it may be impossible to see the sun whilst lying in bed. The stanza ends with the observation that the colour of everything around the singer is white.
The second stanza then shifts to the singer cleaning their mouth in a bath full of blue water. They describe the strange sensation of their mouth smelling like their socks and sitting in a box, perhaps indicating that they feel trapped or confined. The line "I want to understand/To remember to forgive" suggests that the singer may be reflecting on their past, attempting to make sense of their memories and let go of any grievances they may be holding onto. The chorus then repeats the line "I don't remember/So I'm very angry/I'm gone" indicating a sense of frustration and confusion on the singer's part.
