Chelsea Joy Wolfe was born in Roseville, California, and grew up in Sacramento. She is of Norwegian and German descent. Her father was in a country band and owned a home studio. By the age of 7, she had written her first poem and by the age of 9, she had written and recorded songs which she later described as "basically Casio-based gothy R&B songs."
Inspired by the dark state of the world and the strange connection between all things, she creates a unique musical blend of goth-folk, experimental rock and spiritual realm funeral songs. With influences ranging from the great minds of Ingmar Bergman and David Lynch to Soviet and end-times literature, her songs conjure visions of other dimensions, claustrophobic echo-rooms and parking garage cathedrals.
Wolfe has recorded seven full length studio albums: The Grime and the Glow, which was released on December 28th, 2010 on limited vinyl through Brooklyn’s Pendu Sound Recordings; Ἀποκάλυψις (pronounced “Apokalypsis”), which was released as a 12” LP on August 23rd, 2011; Unknown Rooms: a Collection of Acoustic Songs, which was released on October, 2012 through Sargent House; Pain Is Beauty, out September 3rd, 2013; Abyss, which was released August 7th, 2015; and Hiss Spun, out September 22nd, 2017; Birth of Violence[7i] which was released on September 13th, 2019.
House of Metal
Chelsea Wolfe Lyrics

You put the petal in your mouth
You put your love inside the metal
You build the metal for your house
And the night runs wild
You put the pill inside the petal
And it runs white
You put the petal in your mouth
And it runs white
You build the metal for your house
You put the pill inside the metal
You put the metal in your mouth
You bleed into your house of nettles
You bleed the night without a sound
There's an ocean inside your chest
We've been sleeping inside your head
There's an ocean inside your chest
We've been sleeping inside your hand
"House of Metal" by Chelsea Wolfe is a hauntingly beautiful song that uses poetic lyrics to create an eerie and ethereal atmosphere. The lyrics are open to interpretation and can be seen as a metaphor for addiction and the destruction it can cause. The first few lines of the song talk about putting a pill inside a petal, indicating that the person is placing their addiction inside something beautiful and delicate. They then put the petal in their mouth, indicating that they are ingesting the addiction. This is followed by the line "You put your love inside the metal, You build the metal for your house", which could be interpreted as the person becoming consumed by their addiction and building their life around it.
As the song progresses, the lyrics become more intense and dark. The lines "and the night runs wild" and "you bleed into your house of nettles, You bleed the night without a sound" suggest that the person's addiction is causing them to lose control and is leading to their self-destruction. The final lines of the song talk about an ocean inside the person's chest, indicating that they are drowning in their addiction, and that others have been affected by it as well since they have been "sleeping inside [the person's] head" and "inside [the person's] hand."
Overall, "House of Metal" is a haunting reflection on the destructive nature of addiction and the toll it can take on a person's life and the lives of those around them. The lyrics are powerful and open to interpretation, allowing listeners to relate to the song in their own way.
