Chelsea Joy Wolfe was born in Roseville, California, and grew up in Sacramento. She is of Norwegian and German descent. Her father was in a country band and owned a home studio. By the age of 7, she had written her first poem and by the age of 9, she had written and recorded songs which she later described as "basically Casio-based gothy R&B songs."
Inspired by the dark state of the world and the strange connection between all things, she creates a unique musical blend of goth-folk, experimental rock and spiritual realm funeral songs. With influences ranging from the great minds of Ingmar Bergman and David Lynch to Soviet and end-times literature, her songs conjure visions of other dimensions, claustrophobic echo-rooms and parking garage cathedrals.
Wolfe has recorded seven full length studio albums: The Grime and the Glow, which was released on December 28th, 2010 on limited vinyl through Brooklyn’s Pendu Sound Recordings; Ἀποκάλυψις (pronounced “Apokalypsis”), which was released as a 12” LP on August 23rd, 2011; Unknown Rooms: a Collection of Acoustic Songs, which was released on October, 2012 through Sargent House; Pain Is Beauty, out September 3rd, 2013; Abyss, which was released August 7th, 2015; and Hiss Spun, out September 22nd, 2017; Birth of Violence[7i] which was released on September 13th, 2019.
Little Grave

I'd follow you into the sun
I held your hand
You held me then
I went outside
You never saw me again
Sunrise
Sunrise
Sunset
Sunrise
Sunset
Sunrise
Sunset
Touch not ye my little grave
For mama is now far away
They lay me there
And there I lay
You can't fight guns with guns, we'll all perish that way
Sunrise
Sunset

And the blue dreams keep on calling me
And the blue dreams keep on calling me
And the blue dreams keep on calling me
And the blue dreams keep on calling me
And the blue dreams keep on calling me
And the blue dreams keep on calling me
And the blue dreams keep on calling me

These lyrics explore themes of loss, death, and the cyclical nature of life. The first verse sets the tone by describing a past relationship, most likely between a child and a parent figure. The singer reminisces about a time when they would follow this person into the sun, indicating a sense of safety, trust, and warmth. The line "I went outside, you never saw me again" suggests that something tragic occurred, causing a separation or death. This sudden and permanent departure is emotionally impactful, leaving the singer longing for the connection they once had.
The repetition of "Sunrise, Sunset" throughout the song emphasizes the relentless passage of time and the cycles of life. It represents the inevitability of change and how life moves forward regardless of personal losses or tragedies. This repetition also creates a hypnotic effect, reinforcing the feeling of being caught in an ongoing loop of memories and emotions.
The next verse introduces the concept of a "little grave" and a plea for it to be left undisturbed. This can be interpreted as the final resting place of the singer or someone dear to them. The line "For mama is now far away" implies that the singer's mother has passed away and is no longer physically present. This creates a sense of distance and isolation, possibly leaving the singer to face their grief alone.
The final lines of the song introduce the idea of "blue dreams" that keep on calling the singer. This could symbolize a yearning or longing for an escape from reality, possibly to a place of comfort or solace. The repetition of this line reinforces the intensity of this desire, suggesting that the singer is longing for a connection that is lost or unattainable. The overall message of the song seems to reflect the bittersweet nature of life and the importance of cherishing the moments we have, even when faced with inevitable changes and losses.
