Chelsea Joy Wolfe was born in Roseville, California, and grew up in Sacramento. She is of Norwegian and German descent. Her father was in a country band and owned a home studio. By the age of 7, she had written her first poem and by the age of 9, she had written and recorded songs which she later described as "basically Casio-based gothy R&B songs."
Inspired by the dark state of the world and the strange connection between all things, she creates a unique musical blend of goth-folk, experimental rock and spiritual realm funeral songs. With influences ranging from the great minds of Ingmar Bergman and David Lynch to Soviet and end-times literature, her songs conjure visions of other dimensions, claustrophobic echo-rooms and parking garage cathedrals.
Wolfe has recorded seven full length studio albums: The Grime and the Glow, which was released on December 28th, 2010 on limited vinyl through Brooklynβs Pendu Sound Recordings; αΌΟΞΏΞΊΞ¬Ξ»Ο ΟΞΉΟ (pronounced βApokalypsisβ), which was released as a 12β LP on August 23rd, 2011; Unknown Rooms: a Collection of Acoustic Songs, which was released on October, 2012 through Sargent House; Pain Is Beauty, out September 3rd, 2013; Abyss, which was released August 7th, 2015; and Hiss Spun, out September 22nd, 2017; Birth of Violence[7i] which was released on September 13th, 2019.

Garden of stones marks the debt
She wears her horrors like a welt
Glitch of a woman self-destructing
Static hum

Static hum
Fuse by the flux, cradle the roots
Shedding of blood glowing like the flaming sun
Euphoria hiss, love me when I fall apart
Ire restrained, Iβ²m ready to let it go
I'm ready to fall apart

The lyrics in "Static Hum" by Chelsea Wolfe depict a hauntingly vivid image of pain and inner turmoil. The opening lines "They gave you to war, gave you away, garden of stones marks the debt" seem to suggest that the singer is speaking to someone who has been affected by war, highlighting the sense of detachment and abandonment that war may bring about.
As the song progresses, the imagery of destruction and chaos becomes more prominent, particularly in the lines "Euphoria hiss, love me when I fall apart, ire restrained, Iβ²m ready to let it go, I'm ready to fall apart." The singer appears to be lost in their own pain, searching for some sort of release, while at the same time, struggling to control their emotions.
The repeated refrain of "Static Hum" emphasizes the sense of stagnation, entrapment, and immobility that the singer feels. The song's hypnotic and unsettling nature leaves the listener with a sense of catharsis, as if they have experienced a glimpse into a dark, introspective world.

I can't believe I only discovered Miss Wolfe, earlier this year. I've now got an unhealthy obsession lol. Absolutely superb, and the guitars and drums on this album, with Chelsea's stunning vocal range and nuances, are pure heaven.

The pull of the playing with the 5th/6th dissonance on this one is magnetic. Adore the harmonic crunch it makes, immediately in the verses. The lyrics, too... they seem to express how all the self-sabotaging rage you might build up in a person is just part of the background noise of the entire world. That's such a rare and desired thing to find effectively conveyed. At least that's what I get from it.
