Exile
Chemlab Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wasting the world away at the bite of your touch, the wash of the passing
Days seeping out doesn't matter that much, drowning out...no sound, pouring
Out...upon the ground, raining down...the drain, and the records skipping,
Skipping, skipping, skipping...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Chemlab's song Exile On Mainline seem to be describing a state of detachment and escapism from the world. The first line "Wasting the world away at the bite of your touch" suggests that the singer is consuming the world around them, perhaps even devouring it, but also being consumed by it. The "bite of your touch" implies that this consumption is not entirely voluntary or pleasurable. Instead, it may be a desperate attempt to feel something, anything, in a world that seems increasingly distant and alienating.

The following lines describe a sense of time passing relentlessly, like water seeping out - an image that further emphasizes the singer's feeling of being adrift and disconnected from reality. The chorus, with its repetition of "skipping, skipping, skipping," intensifies this sensation of disorientation and dislocation. The image of a scratched record jumping and skipping further reinforces the feeling of being stuck, trapped in a loop that cannot be escaped. Overall, the lyrics of Exile On Mainline paint a bleak picture of a world that is both overwhelming and indifferent, and a speaker who is struggling to find a foothold in the midst of it all.

CHEMLAB = REAL INDUSTRIAL

@_a_curious_robot

YES!!! I told the same thing to some people who thought that industrial music is like EDM music with distorted vocals (search for "industrial music" in youtube, and you'll get what I'm telling you.)

@TheArrow1987

@piano aquieu I would say The 3 you mention are first wave industrial, Chemlab maybe 3rd wave industrial to be exact. I think it is still industrial music, only a later generation of it.
