High
Cheryl Dilcher Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And to hear the sweet music you play
You got diamonds in your hair
And bells on your ankle
And a green dragon on the stage
I don't know what you do
But whatever it is
You got me hooked on your line all the way
He gets to see you everyday
It would make me high - to have you
It would make me high - to have you
I don't know about what to do about
The way that you move
And I'm beginning to fantasize
I wanna take you home want to talk to you
I want to rock you to sleep tonight
It's time for you to go
But I'm beggin' you please
Comma, Comma give me some more
Gimme a chance and I'll make you happy
That's what I came here for
It would make me high - to have you
These lyrics are telling the story of someone who is deeply infatuated with a musician or performer that they have gone to see live. They drove a long distance just to witness their performance first-hand and admire their musical talent. The performer is described as having diamonds in their hair, bells on their ankle, and a green dragon on the stage, which suggests that the performance is highly theatrical and visually captivating.
The singer is completely enamored by the performer and admits to being completely hooked on their line. They are highly drawn to the performer's movements and are beginning to fantasize about taking them home and rocking them to sleep. Despite the performer's impending departure, the singer is begging for more of their attention and is even offering to make them happy if given the chance.
Overall, these lyrics are a celebration of the power that music and performance can have over us. The singer is completely swept away by the performer's talent and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep them close.

I have the Blue Sailor album on clear vinyl. Still love and play all 3 of my Dilcher albums. What a unique voice, and always a great band and music to back her up.

Cheryl Dilcher- WAY, WAY ahead of her time. I just love this song and Cheryl. Remarkable song and talent.

I like her music, but can find nothing in it that is “way ahead of her time”. What makes you say that?

Cheryl Dilcher passed away several years ago unfortunately. She was way ahead of her time with her music, but just never got the recognition she deserved. I saw her in concert once in St.Louis and she was awesome. I just recently bought a new turntable so that I can play her albums again.
