Who Are You
Cheshire And The Cat Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When the people sigh,
Something makes me want to know
When the shadows fade away,
Something makes me want to know
Who you are
Something is with us,
I feel it just behind
When the shadows fade away,
Something makes me want to know
Who you are
No one can explain,
This heat I feel inside
When the moon shows its face,
I know you're there
It's time to let the lies
Slip away, along the pain
Your arms around my body, I feel you, now
I wanna know
Who you are
Who you are
No one can explain it anyway
Never be afraid,
Sometimes, you have to lie down
To make the shadows fade away
Sometimes, you have to let go
It's time to let the lies
Slip away along the pain
And your arms around my body, I feel you now
Who you are
Who you are
No one can explain,
This heat I feel inside
When the moon shows its face,
I know you're there
It's time to let the lies
Slip away, along the pain
Your arms around my soul
Tell me who you are
You have to tell me who you are
No one can explain,
How dreams can show the way
When the wind is full of words
I know you're there
It's time to let the cries
Slip away along the pain
Your arms around my soul
I feel you now
The lyrics to Cheshire And The Cat's song Who Are you delve into the mysterious and the unknown. The repetition of the line "Something makes me want to know Who you are" emphasizes the curiosity and need for understanding present in the singer. The opening lines "When the people sigh, Something makes me want to know When the shadows fade away, Something makes me want to know" provide an enigmatic atmosphere as the singer talks about some inexplicable force that makes them curious. The lines "No one can explain, This heat I feel inside When the moon shows its face, I know you're there" implies a strong emotional connection between the singer and the subject of their curiosity, that cannot be explained by words.
The lyrics use metaphorical language to express deep emotions, for instance, "Sometimes, you have to lie down, To make the shadows fade away, Sometimes, you have to let go" could imply the surrender of one's vulnerability to reveal themselves truly. The song's theme could be a search for identity, which the singer hopes to find in the unnamed person they address. Thus, the lyrics carry an altogether eerie feeling, emphasizing the singer's quest for knowledge and a deeper understanding of their identity and those around them.

Alice is very nice and she never wants to upset anyone. She didn’t mean to insult the Caterpillar’s height, she just wanted help on growing back to her right size because she only meant 3 inches was an uncomfortable height for herself. She is nice. She does not mean any real harm at all.

Does anybody notice how young Alice's voice sounds in this particular scene, compared to the other parts of the movie? I could be wrong, but I'm assuming this moment with the Caterpillar must've been Kathryn Beaumont's first scene as Alice.
