Someone To Watch Over Me
Cheyenne Jackson Lyrics

Still were often told, seek and ye shall find
So I'm going to seek a certain lad I've had in mind
Looking everywhere, haven't found him yet
Hes the big affair I cannot forget
Only man I ever think of with regret
I'd like to add his initial to my monogram
There's a somebody I'm longing to see
I hope that he turns out to be
Someone who'll watch over me
I'm a little lamb who's lost in the wood
I know I could always be good
Someone who'll watch over me
Although he may not be the man some
Girls think of as handsome
To my heart he carries the key
Won't you tell him please to put on some speed
Follow my lead, oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me
In Cheyenne Jackson's song "Someone To Watch Over Me", the singer expresses their search for love throughout the lyrics. The first verse refers to the common phrase "love is blind" and "seek and ye shall find", indicating that the singer is on the search for someone specific. They continue by saying that they've looked everywhere but haven't found this special someone yet. In the second verse, they reveal that this person is someone they've regretted not being with and they even want to add their initial to their monogram. The song's chorus expresses the singer's longing for someone to watch over them, to guide them through life, and to be their protector.
The lyrics reveal the singer's vulnerability as they compare themselves to a "little lamb who's lost in the wood". They state that they know they could always be good if they had someone watching over them. Even though this special someone may not be considered handsome by some, the singer believes this person carries the key to their heart. They plead for someone to tell him to put on some speed and follow their lead, expressing their desperation for finding love and someone to watch over them.
Overall, the song expresses the human search for love and companionship. The narration centers on this desire and the hope of finding someone who will be a protector, guide, and confidant.
