O futebol
Chico Buarque Lyrics
Para estufar esse filó
Como eu sonhei
Só
Se eu fosse o Rei
Para tirar efeito igual
Ao jogador
Qual
Compositor
Para aplicar uma firula exata
Que pintor
Pintura mais fundamental
Que um chute a gol
Com precisão
De flecha e folha seca
Parafusar algum joão
Na lateral
Não
Quando é fatal
Para avisar a finta enfim
Quando não é
Sim
No contrapé
Para avançar na vaga geometria
O corredor
Na paralela do impossível, minha nega
No sentimento diagonal
Do homem-gol
Rasgando o chão
E costurando a linha
Parábola do homem comum
Roçando o céu
Um
Senhor chapéu
Para delírio das gerais
No coliseu
Mas
Que rei sou eu
Para anular a natural catimba
Do cantor
Paralisando esta canção capenga, nega
Para captar o visual
De um chute a gol
E a emoção
Da idéia quando ginga
(Para Mané para Didi para Mané
Mané para Didi para Mané
Para Didi para Pagão
Para Pelé e Canhoteiro)

He wrote and studied literature as a child and found music through the bossa nova compositions of Tom Jobim and João Gilberto. He performed as a singer and guitarist in the 1960s as well as writing a play that was deemed dangerous by the Brazilian military dictatorship of the time. Buarque, along with several Tropicalist and MPB musicians, was threatened by the Brazilian military government and eventually left Brazil for Italy in 1969. However, he came back to Brazil in 1970, and continued to record, perform, and write, though much of his material was suppressed by government censors. He released several more albums in the 1980s and published three novels in the 1990s and 2000s.
In 2019, Buarque was awarded the Camões Prize, the most important prize for literature in the Portuguese language.

Chico Buarque viu jogar e admirava o jogador Canhoteiro do São Paulo FC.
