Chiddy Bang formed when Anamege and Beresin met at Drexel University in 2008. After months of support from underground music blogs, the pair released their debut mixtape The Swelly Express via blog Pretty Much Amazing. The release was met with widespread acclaim and led to the group signing a recording contract with EMI in January 2010.
Their first commercial single on the label taken from their The Swelly Express mixtape, Opposite of Adults, samples the Brooklyn group MGMT's 'Kids' and was released on February 21, 2010 in the UK. It reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart and later peaked at 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. A second single from the mixtape titled Truth was released in the UK and peaked at number 50. Following this success, Chiddy Bang released a second mixtape exclusively within the UK featuring remixes and adaptations of popular British artists including tinie tempah, ellie goulding and kate nash.
In October 2010 the pair released Chiddy Bang: The Preview - an EP consisting of previous singles and new material - serving as a prelude to their debut album scheduled for release in Spring 2011.
The Mind Your Manners Songfacts states that Chidera "Chiddy" Anamege broke the world record for the longest freestyle on April 28, 2011. His freestyle lasted 9 hours, 18 minutes, and 22 seconds, supported by looped beats played by Xaphoon, beating the previous longest time by three minutes.

Something that you can't imagine
Something you don't know
Man I'm looking for the good life
Baby girl I got a ticket, do you wanna go?
Swelly, swelly, swelly,
Swelly, swelly, swelly, swelly I call
Show me that you got some good sense
Show me what you know
Make your trunk go
Make your make your trunk go
Make make make make make make your trunk go
Man I gotta be fresh and I gotta be ill
We locate from the jungle where it's killed or be killed
And I'ma get mine, don't care how you feel
In an artificial world where nothing is real
We searching for wild for something that's greater
And hopefully I'll make it there sooner or later
Remember I was younger and I didn't have a thing
And then I had a dream they call Martin Luther King
I'm swelly on top for the world it seems
Cash rules everything around me get cream
Good morning, to my haters all I say is good night
They ask me what I'm looking for, I need a good life
Man I'm looking for the good life
Something that you can't imagine
Something you don't know
Man I'm looking for the good life
Baby girl I got a ticket, do you wanna go?
Swelly, swelly, swelly, swelly,
Swelly, swelly, swelly I call
And we could have a good night
Show me that you got some good sense
Show me what you know
Make your trunk go
Make your make your trunk go
Make make make make make make your trunk go
I bet you know now if you didn't know then
I step into the booth and it's time to go in
And P got the bass turned up the low end
And this is that soul for the big "O" ten
I never thought that I would be a man in the game
I brush off my shirt where there used to be a stain
I came a long way where I wasn't so fly
Made music like Kweli just to get by
I never had a job, but that couldn't stop him
Cause now I get paid and I never clock in
And I will never stumble, fall, or take a pay cut
I'm in that elevator and I'm on my way up
Man I'm looking for the good life
Something that you can't imagine
Something you don't know
Man I'm looking for the good life
Baby girl I got a ticket, do you wanna go?
Swelly, swelly, swelly, swelly,
Swelly, swelly, swelly I call
And we could have a good night
Show me that you got some good sense
Show me what you know
Man I'm looking for the good life
Something that you can't imagine
Something you don't know
Man I'm looking for the good life
Baby girl I got a ticket, do you wanna go?
Swelly, swelly, swelly, swelly,
Swelly, swelly, swelly I call
And we could have a good night
Show me that you got some good sense
Show me what you know
In βThe Good Life,β Chiddy Bang expresses his desire to live a meaningful and enjoyable life. The good life he seeks is something beyond imagination; itβs something that people donβt even know exists. He wants to experience this exciting and satisfying life with his partner as he says, βBaby girl, I got a ticket, do you wanna go?β The chorus repeats the phrase βswelly, swelly, swelly,β which could be a reference to Chiddy Bangβs nickname βSwelly.β
The first verse refers to the struggle to survive in a competitive world where people must fight their way through artificial and superficial settings. Chiddy Bang raps about coming from a tough background, but he has a dream like Martin Luther King Jr. that heβs going to attain. He aims to reach the top, but heβs not concerned about how others feel about his progress. He talks about his mission to find something greater in life.
In the second verse, the focus is on the present, and Chiddy Bang reflects on his journey. He recalls his early days when he wasn't so "fly," and he used to make music to "get by" like Talib Kweli. Heβs come a long way from then and has achieved what he once dreamt of. The song fades out with Chiddy Bang still pursuing his idea of the good life.
