Cozart attended Dulles Elementary School and later Banner High School on Chicago's South Side, which is where he got his career start. In December 2011, he was arrested on a weapons charge (aggravated unlawful use of a weapon) and put under house arrest at his grandmother's home. While under house arrest, Cozart posted several videos to his YouTube account. The attention he received grew in the short time between the release of several mixtapes and several music videos, including "Bang," "3Hunna," and "I Don't Like." After two locally successful mixtapes, "I Don't Like" became a local hit in Chicago. It also caught fellow Chicago rapper Kanye West's attention, and West organized a remix of the song along with rappers Pusha T, Jadakiss, and Big Sean. On July 7, 2012, it was announced that Chief Keef would be performing at the 2012 Lollapalooza music festival.
In the following years, Keef has served up a continuous stream of releases, such as Back From the Dead 2 (2014), Bang 3 (2015), and Thot Breaker (2017). Critics have cited Chief Keef as a major influence on contemporary hip hop through his impact on artists such as Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Tupac and various collaborations.

I do it later on, 'cause you know I gotta get it
Blue book on me, yeah it's written
Don't mind me I'm just making these decisions
I walk in the Rolls, with my llama
You don't want nothing nigga, so proceed to drama
Wrist looking colder than the Yonkers
Black thang sliding in the car call up Keke Palmer
I walk up in the spot fresher than a damn Islamic
It's a bird, it's a plane, nah nigga it's a comet
Uhh-uhh-uhh-uhh I'm slidin' in that vomit
Smoking on this strong pack feelin' real atomic
Pass the blue thang my nickname is Sonic
I just left Saks now I'm pulling up to Sonic
Tryna get on forbes 'cause they label me a convict
Slide the gear over you won't see a nigga comin'
'Cause Tadoe we on shit and we seeing how you bummin'
Ion fuck with you boi you seeing how I'm turnin'
Cops on the side and they seeing how I'm burning
This bitch fast yeah they seeing how I'm lunging
I know she gon' let me hit it
I do it later on, 'cause you know I gotta get it
Blue book on me, yeah it's written
Don't mind me I'm just making these decisions
I walk in the Rolls, with my llama
You don't want nothing nigga, so proceed to drama
Wrist looking colder than the Yonkers
Black thang sliding in the car call up Keke Palmer
200, so the cops pulled us over
Ion know if I'm high or I'm sober
Twin stickies, but this not Minnesota
Actin' a ass got the car bending over
Shawty send me roses and lotuses
Please don't get them lame boys involved with this
Hopped on yo shit and kill it, like "who song is this?"
All up in my DM, man "who mom is this?"
Walk up in yo spot, you know we running it (mmhmm, mhmm)
Sack you in our touchdown, we loading it
Ice on, don't know no nigga cold as this
I won't miss the shot, I don't need no assist
I know she gon' let me hit it
I do it later on, 'cause you know I gotta get it
Blue book on me, yeah it's written
Don't mind me I'm just making these decisions
I walk in the Rolls, with my llama
You don't want nothing nigga, so proceed to drama
Wrist looking colder than the Yonkers
Black thang sliding in the car call up Keke Palmer
The lyrics of Chief Keef's song "Keke Palmer" express the rapper's confidence and sense of self-importance. He knows that the girl he's interested in will eventually let him "hit it" or have sex with her but he's too busy making decisions and carrying a blue book to do it right away. He also boasts about his "cold" wrist and how he walks into places wearing luxury items like his Rolls Royce with a "llama" (gun) for protection. In the second verse, Chief Keef compares himself to a comet and talks about how he's "feeling real atomic" while smoking weed. He passes the "blue thang" or the gun to his friend and brags about how he just left Saks (a high-end clothing store). He also mentions how he's focused on becoming successful, getting on Forbes' list, and leaving behind his past as a convict. The song ends with more bragging about how he doesn't need anyone's help and how he's always prepared to shoot his shot.
