Cozart attended Dulles Elementary School and later Banner High School on Chicago's South Side, which is where he got his career start. In December 2011, he was arrested on a weapons charge (aggravated unlawful use of a weapon) and put under house arrest at his grandmother's home. While under house arrest, Cozart posted several videos to his YouTube account. The attention he received grew in the short time between the release of several mixtapes and several music videos, including "Bang," "3Hunna," and "I Don't Like." After two locally successful mixtapes, "I Don't Like" became a local hit in Chicago. It also caught fellow Chicago rapper Kanye West's attention, and West organized a remix of the song along with rappers Pusha T, Jadakiss, and Big Sean. On July 7, 2012, it was announced that Chief Keef would be performing at the 2012 Lollapalooza music festival.
In the following years, Keef has served up a continuous stream of releases, such as Back From the Dead 2 (2014), Bang 3 (2015), and Thot Breaker (2017). Critics have cited Chief Keef as a major influence on contemporary hip hop through his impact on artists such as Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Tupac and various collaborations.

With n-ggas head
I got money I got power, got respect with this Tec
My n-ggas out here wailing you could duck or get wet
From... To dc what we gang bang throwing sets
But she so... Fetch our shooters, go ahead do that
It ain't nothing bitch we bucking, light it up, can do that
We turn nothing into something, get that check, run through that
I be shitting on them bitchcoes like where my men is at
I be in my f-cking glory shining just like my watch
I be pulling up and pulling off in them ford...
I get that bitch a name if she talking pornstar
Oh we got these bitches Bobby... Full of...
I got money I got power, got respect with this Tec
My n-ggas out here wailing playin Russian roulette, Russian roulette
My n-ggas out here wailing playin Russian roulette, Russian roulette
With n-ggas head X 2
In "Russian Roulette," Chief Keef showcases his power and wealth as a leader of his gang. The lyrics talk about how he has it all - money, power, respect, and a dangerous weapon, the Tec-9. He and his gangs play a deadly game - Russian roulette, with their lives on the line. The song's title refers to this dangerous game where participants play with a single bullet in a revolver pistol, spin the cylinder, and pull the trigger with the gun pointed at their heads; it relies on chance as to whether the bullet is fired. The game's poorly thought out nature represents the reckless attitude of gang culture that values taking risks and disregards the worth of human life.
Keef goes on to rap about how his gang is always ready for war, and anyone who challenges them will either duck or get soaking wet with their shots. They come from different regions, from Tennessee to DC, and are united by their gang affiliations. Keef's gang will do anything to protect their territory and secure their livelihoods. They transform nothing into something significant, getting their fair share by hustling and getting a piece of the money. In contrast, Keef maintains his luxurious lifestyle, shining like his watches and driving impressively. He brags about the number of women he has, objectifying and exploiting them for his pleasure. The lyrics show the darker side of gang culture, where displaying power and killing carry more weight than empathy and kindness.
