Forgive
Chike Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Though they broke your heart so many times oh
You can't forget
And they made you cry so many times oh
You still regret
To make enemies wasn't the goal
But you lost your friends long time ago
I'm just here to let you know
That its time to let it go
If true peace is what you want
And if long life is what you need
I'm just here to let you know
That is time to let it go

Please forgive oh onye jin madu Chukwu meya
Please forgive oh onye jin madu Chukwu meya
Please forgive oh oh oh onye jin madu Chukwu meya
Please forgive oh oh oh oh if you hold person you hold yourself too

Halle oh oh oh halle
Halle oh oh oh halle
Halle oh oh oh halle
Halle oh oh oh halle

And he broke your heart so many times oh
You can't forget
Then you gave a second chance again oh
But you regret
To make enemies wasn't the goal
But you lost your friends long time ago
I'm just here to let you know
That it's time to let it go
If true peace is what you want
And if long life is what you need
I'm just here to let you know
Maybe you should let it go

Please forgive oh oh onye jin madu Chukwu meya
Please forgive oh oh onye jin madu Chukwu meya
Please forgive oh oh onye jin madu Chukwu meya
Please forgive oh oh if you hold person you hold yourself

Halle oh oh oh oh halle
Forgive oh oh oh oh halle
Forgive oh oh oh oh halle
Forgive oh oh oh oh halle
Forgive oh oh oh oh halle
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh halle

Forgive oh oh oh oh oh oh halle
Halle

Overall Meaning

In this song, Chike is urging someone to forgive those who have hurt them in the past. The first verse acknowledges that the person may have been hurt multiple times and may still carry the weight of that pain. However, holding onto the grudges and regrets only harms the person holding onto them, even if their initial goal was not to make enemies. The chorus emphasizes the importance of forgiveness by pleading for it and reminding the person that holding onto resentment only hurts themselves in the end. The second verse depicts the scene of giving someone a second chance, which ultimately leads to more regret. Chike once again urges the person to let go and forgive in order to find true peace and a long life.

The song's lyrics are mostly in Igbo, a language spoken in Nigeria. The title of the song "Forgive" means "kpatara" in Igbo.
