Assasins
Childish Gambino Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Gats in they faces
Then we fold them up and put
Them back in they cases
Assassins replace expressions on faces
And hard eyes on gangsters
With hot gaping spaces
Hands full of aces, pockets on swole
Leave JFKβs head just a big smoky hole
To console Jackie O she could smoke my pole
Itβs called Camelot βcause she came a lot
And a lot of you rappers sound the same a lot
And the game is still out there
If you play or not
And Iβm the King of Queens
Kevin James is not
I quit my temp job βcause I
Canβt let a day go
Tomorrowβs moguls are delivering your bagels
I hope your trophy wife
Been practicing her Kegels
Cause when we take the game we
Wonβt leave you any Legos
There go the kid with his
Dirty white sneakers on
Dreaming on a way to get
His penthouse on Bleecker on
Give your girl head
Call you with the speaker on
Horse head in your bed
Now you know who you sleeping on
Are you seeing what Iβm seeing?
This booth is a crime scene
Chalk off the mic
The kill screen is my screen
No need to terrify or pop shots at witnesses
They only testified they know what
Hot shit this is true assassins
Hold your glass up
Them's the type of niggas thatβll
Cut yo ass up whether it be tracks or verses
Chains or purses
Them the type of niggas thatβll make you stop
True assassins hold your glass up
Them's the type of niggas thatβll
Cut yo ass up whether it be tracks or verses
Chains or purses
Them the type of niggas thatβll make you stop
Classic assassin
Straight from Central Castinβ
I bust through your abode
With both barrels blastinβ
I crush up your skull like a
Truck that you crashed in
Iβm never gonna die like Iβm Tuck Everlasting
Never thought that Iβd carry an AK
All I ever wanted to be is Farley, Ferrell
Or Fey
And maybe some day that dream will come true
But for now I got my gun
And Iβm aiming at you (Hey)
In your house on your
Couch while youβre readinβ i got no flow
Itβs more like breakthrough bleedinβ
But Iβm into cartoons and Iβm really not sane
All I leave of your body is
A Pinky and the Brain (Uh)
Iβm more Manson than a small-time crook
When it comes to taking lives
I steal like Dane Cook
Bitch, take a look, you know itβs in a book
Even LeVar Burtonβs Roots get shook
Ah, ah, you can call me assassin
I kill Versace
I walk too much, gotta Gucci watch me
The illest of the killers you
Can tell by my fashion
Light hoodie to bright sneaks
Itβs all matchin'
I kill rappers, I donβt need no stealinβ
If I do lose a battle Iβmma kill βem for real
Iβm just kidding, or am I?
Things get real in the City of LI
Thatβs right, I live in Queens
The borough of the lost
I hate the fuckinβ yuppies but I
Love how much it costs
Call me in the winter and
The spring to play tennis
And they give me strange looks βcause
I floss like a dentist
Iβmma finish this sentence then get me a rope
So I got a little dough
And Iβm fresh like Scope
A nigga so dope, I got the new Pumas
I never take 'em out so
I call βem homeschoolers
Numbers like rulers, Iβm tired of it all
I sleep in the club and I yawn when I ball
Iβm off the hook like phone calls
Whereβs Kidrobot?
I need a new hoodie hot pink like doughnuts
The kids is Go-Gurts when
They see my Gobstoppers
Iβm not Mekhi Phifer, but I got Clockers
Transform a watch when I donβt got diamonds
Boy, did you hear what I said like Simon?
I kill boutiques just snatch the new sneak
Iβma do it every week iβm a serial killer
Beats like Dilla hun like βTilla
Itβs the Sick Boi Thrilla true assassins
Hold your glass up
Them's the type of niggas thatβll
Cut yo ass up whether it be tracks or verses
Chains or purses
Them the type of niggas thatβll make you stop
True assassins hold your glass up
Them's the type of niggas thatβll
Cut yo ass up whether it be tracks or verses
Chains or purses
Them the type of niggas thatβll make you stop
In the song "Assassins" by Childish Gambino, the lyrics paint a vivid picture of a world filled with violence and danger. The opening lines set the tone by describing a scene where assassins wield guns and violence. The imagery of folding up the victims and putting them back in their cases suggests a cold and calculated approach to killing. The chorus reinforces the idea of true assassins who can cut you down in different ways, whether it be through their music (tracks or verses) or material possessions (chains or purses).
Childish Gambino uses clever wordplay and pop culture references throughout the song. He mentions JFK's assassination, referencing the infamous grassy knoll, and even makes a provocative remark about Jackie O. He also refers to himself as the "King of Queens," a play on words referencing the TV show and his position in the rap game. In the second verse, he compares himself to an assassin who crushes skulls and will never die, evoking a sense of invincibility. He also includes references to famous figures like Farley, Ferrell, and Fey, highlighting his aspirations in the entertainment industry.
The lyrics continue to showcase Childish Gambino's dark and humorous style. He mentions breakthrough bleeding, a term used in women's health, to describe his unconventional flow in contrast to traditional rap styles. He compares himself to the infamous cult leader Charles Manson and comedian Dane Cook, both known for their controversial and provocative behavior. He also references LeVar Burton's Roots, alluding to the impact and disruption he can bring to established norms.
Overall, "Assassins" presents a gritty and unapologetic portrayal of the rap lifestyle, with Childish Gambino showcasing his lyrical prowess and biting wit.
