Asa Branca
Chitãozinho Xororó Ney Matogrosso Lyrics

Qual a fogueira de São João
Eu perguntei a Deus do céu, ai
Por que tamanha judiação
Eu perguntei a Deus do céu, ai
Por que tamanha judiação
Que braseiro, que fornalha
Nem um pé de prantação
Morreu de sede meu alazão
Por farta d'água perdi meu gado
Morreu de sede meu alazão
Inté mesmo a asa branca
Bateu asas do sertão
Então eu disse, adeus Rosinha
Guarda contigo meu coração
Então eu disse, adeus Rosinha
Guarda contigo meu coração
Hoje longe, muitas léguas
Numa triste solidão
Espero a chuva cair de novo
Pra mim voltar pro meu sertão
Espero a chuva cair de novo
Pra mim voltar pro meu sertão
Quando o verde dos teus olhos
Se espalhar na prantação
Eu te asseguro não chore não, viu
Que eu voltarei, viu
Meu coração
Eu te asseguro não chore não, viu
Que eu voltarei, viu
Meu coração
In "Asa Branca," which translates to "white-winged dove," the lyrics reflect on the harsh reality of the drought in the sertão, an arid region in northeastern Brazil. The song begins with the singer describing the land burning like a São João bonfire, seeking an explanation from God for the immense suffering. The lack of water resulted in the death of cattle and crops, leaving the land barren and bare. Even the white-winged dove left the sertão in search of a place with water.
The singer says goodbye to his beloved Rosinha, asking her to keep his heart safe while he journeys far away in solitude, dreaming of the rain returning to bring life back to the sertão. The last stanza portrays the hope that the restoration of green vegetation will lead to his return to his homeland, promising his beloved Rosinha not to cry because he will come back.
