Officially the band started in 1991 and started playing shows in 1992. However, they only played a small number of shows at this stage and decided to concentrate their efforts on practicing. In 1993 the band started playing regularly in venues around Calgary.
In 1996 Chixdiggit! were signed to Sub Pop records. They released their first self-titled album on the record label, however they only lasted a short time on the label. The band left the label as they felt as though they didn't fit in with the record label's ideals. As stated by Mike from the band: "the people that actually had to sell our records and deal with us on a day to day basis were not quite so fond of us".
At this stage Chixdiggit was touring worldwide. They were quickly picked up by Honest Don's Records, a Fat Wreck Chords subsidiary from San Francisco.
After the release of 2000's From Scene to Shining Scene, the band took a hiatus, from which they returned in 2003 and in 2005 the band started writing and recording its fourth full length album, Pink Razors. The album was released April 19, 2005 on Fat Wreck Chords in North American and Bad Taste Records in Europe.
Founding member Mike Eggermont left the band in 2002 and started Blatant Media, a software company. In 2003, drummer Dave Alcock (owner of Sundae Sound recording studio) left the band, and was replaced by the band's original drummer, Jason Hirsch.
On October 31st, 2007, the band released a re-recording of their debut album, Chixdiggit!, on Bad Taste Records. The re-recorded album was titled Chixdiggit! II.

Even though I've done nothing wrong
They say I'm tryin' harder than I have to be
I ain't tryin' to cut no ones lawn
I got one of those haircuts and a distant stare
And some cardio for my lungs
Then I shaved my chest hair there's nothing there
Well as I look out from under my Itty Bitty Booklight
I think how my friends think I should get on that horse again
Well maybe they got a point cause I sit alone here every night
And talk to myself as I apply face cream before bed
All the good girls are scared of me
Even though I've done nothing wrong
They say I'm tryin' harder than I have to be
I ain't tryin' to cut no ones lawn
I ain't tryin' to cut no ones lawn
I ain't tryin' to cut no ones lawn
Good girl
Did you hafta be a good girl
Would you think that it'd be better if I lied
You and me are gonna make it if we try
Oh Good girl
Did you hafta be a good girl
You know what cause I know what you really like
Imitate Austin Powers all the time
Oh Good girl
Did you hafta be a good girl
Did you hafta be a good girl
Did you hafta be a good girl
Oh Good girl
Did you hafta be a good girl
Did you hafta be a good girl
Did you hafta be a good girl
The song "Good Girls" by Chixdiggit! tells the story of a man who feels misunderstood by the women around him. He laments that "all the good girls are scared of" him, even though he "has done nothing wrong." He feels like he is trying too hard to be liked and respected, but he doesn't know how to change that. He has changed his appearance, worked on his fitness, and even shaved his chest hair, but it seems like nothing he does can make him attractive to the women around him. He is lonely and spends his nights talking to himself and applying face cream before bed.
The chorus repeats the idea that the good girls are scared of him, and he acknowledges that he is not trying to impress anyone or prove anything to anyone. He is not "tryin' to cut no ones lawn," which can be interpreted as he is not trying to compete or step on anyone else's toes. He just wants to be liked and desired for who he is.
The second part of the song shifts focus to a specific girl who acts like a good girl but might secretly want something different. He asks her if she "hafta be a good girl" and wonders if lying about his character traits would make her like him better. He invites her to join him in exploring different sides of their personalities, suggesting that imitating Austin Powers could be a fun thing to do together.
Overall, "Good Girls" is a song about loneliness, insecurity, and the desire for connection. The man in the song feels like he is not understood, and he is frustrated that his efforts to be likable are not working. He wants to find someone who is willing to see beyond his appearance and reputation and connect with him on a deeper level.
