Thunder
Chloe x Halle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

lighting across the sky
beauty that paralyzes, oh i, oh i
i'm not scared, i wanna try
you're a storm, i can't deny, oh i, oh i

my baby gone, he got me so high
is heaven's door right next door to my heart
don't even know what the difference is
don't even know what the difference is
my baby told me that i'm in love
but no, i'm tripping tripping, did he slip me a drug?
don't even know what the difference is
can't even tell you what the difference is

just know i feel that rain, it's coming towards you
just know i feel that rain, it's coming towards you
feel that rain, it's coming towards you
feel that rain, it's coming towards you

watch it electrify
blazes across the sky, oh i, oh i

my baby gone, he got me so high
is heaven's door right next door to my heart
don't even know what the difference is
don't even know what the difference is
my baby told me that i'm in love
but no, i'm tripping tripping, did he slip me a drug?
don't even know what the difference is
can't even tell you what the difference is

just know i feel that rain, it's coming towards you
just know i feel that rain, it's coming towards you
feel that rain, it's coming towards you
feel that rain, it's coming towards you

feel that rain, it's coming towards you
feel that rain, it's coming towards you

feel that rain, it's coming towards you
feel that rain, it's coming towards you

Overall Meaning

The opening line “Lightning across the sky, beauty that paralyzes” presents a breathtaking sight of a stormy night. The singer then expresses her fearlessness in the face of the storm, “I’m not scared, I wanna try”. The storm becomes a metaphor for a tumultuous relationship where the partner is compared to a thunderstorm- powerful and intense, “You’re a storm, I can't deny”.

The second verse suggests that the singer’s partner has left her but she is still under the spell. She wonders if heaven’s door is next to her heart or she’s just high on the memory of her love. She is confused about whether she is in love or has been drugged, “My baby told me that I’m in love, but no, I’m tripping tripping, did he slip me a drug?” The chorus, with the repetition of the lines "just know I feel that rain, it's coming towards you" sees the singer acknowledging that the stormy relationship is heading towards the partner.

In conclusion, the song is about a tumultuous relationship where the singer isn't sure if she's in love or has been drugged. The storm is used as a metaphor for the powerful and intense nature of her partner. The singer is fearless in the storm, but still has feelings for her partner, even if she's not sure if they are genuine or not.

Here in 2020 to listen to my favorite song from "Sugar Symphony"...Chloe's production and vocal production is insane, Halle's vocals are like clouds gliding across the sky, that's the way her vocals ride the beat, then there's Chloe going off on those backing vocals...mind blown still!

@ukaniko

These girls are really incredible. Not only do they have voices like angels, but they actually make music that bangs. I love it! Black Girl Magic doesn't sleep!
