The tabernacle is impressive as well. Visiting Temple Square twice on a couple of vacations, it was part of a guided tour. The second time visiting, I had the fortune of attending one of the weekly broadcasts of, “Music and the Spoken Word.” (Unbelievably--an event of some sort--treated with a bit more, “Shenandoah” was performed after the broadcast!)

Given that the video clips are from performances of, “Homeward Bound,” “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need,” “Standing on the Promises” and a different version of, “Shenandoah”--as described--and unrelated to the dubbed audio track, that’s to be expected.

Anyway, it is indeed beautiful music and they are in fact legendary--and thanks for watching.

The song is, in fact, about a man—likely a trader working along the Missouri River—falling in love with the daughter of Chief Shenandoah and wishing to take her with him back to the Missouri. I always thought it was about the Shenandoah River but ended up learning about John Shenandoah, a critical figure in the revolutionary war. Check it out! :)
