Dont Be Gone Too Long

I hope it grows, grows
In a year or two if you're around
You'll see a rose, rose
Pack me up and keep me hidden somewhere
That you can find me
On a train to Paris going nowhere
Trouble bridge behind me
Don't be gone too long (too long)
'Cause you won't be there to love me when you're gone
Don't be gone too long (too long)
Tell me who's gonna love me when you're gone
When you're, when you're gone
When you're gone
Golden leaves are dancing on the ground
It's getting cold, cold
Safe from time, will be forever young
Never old, old
See upon a fire out in space,
Zooming up behind me
All the wonder written in your face
Was there beside me
Don't be gone too long (too long)
'Cause you won't be there to love me when you're gone
Don't be gone too long (too long)
Tell me who's gonna love me when you're gone
Oh oh
When you're when you're gone
Oh oh
When you're gone
Bring it back to me, bring it back to me
Is it really over?
Bring it back to me, bring it back to me (is it over?)
Bring it back to me, bring it back to me
Is it really over? (Yeah)
Bring it back to me, bring it back to me
Don't be gone too long (too long) ('Cause it will be over)
'Cause you won't be there to love me when you're gone
Don't be gone too long (too long) ('Cause it will be over)
Tell me who's gonna love me when you're gone
Don't be gone too long (too long) ('Cause it will be over)
'Cause you won't be there to love me when you're gone (when it's over)
Don't be gone too long (too long) ('Cause it will be over)
Tell me who's gonna love me when you're gone
The lyrics of "Don't Be Gone Too Long" by Chris Brown featuring Ariana Grande revolves around a lover's plea to their partner not to be away for too long. The song begins with the metaphor of planting a seed that will grow into a rose, which the singer hopes their partner will see in a year or two if they're still together. The line "Pack me up and keep me hidden somewhere that you can find me" can be interpreted as the singer's desire to be kept safe and protected, even when they're not physically together.
The next few verses describe the changing seasons and the inevitability of time passing, but the singer maintains their hope that their relationship will remain youthful, and they'll never grow old or apart from one another. The mention of a fire out in space and the wonder written in the lover's face suggests a spiritual, almost supernatural connection between the two.
The chorus of the song, with its repeated refrain of "Don't be gone too long, tell me who's gonna love me when you're gone," emphasizes the singer's dependency on their partner's love and presence. Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of longing, vulnerability, and insecurity about the future of the relationship.
