I guess I gotta put on a show again
'Cause everyone's waiting
Females, fly jets
When I turn the radio on
I hear all my songs playing, yeah
Whatever money can buy
I probably got it
That's real talk, yeah
I see my name in the sky all over the world
And I just sit hear saying, lucky me
I gotta pose for the cameras
Even when my world's falling down
I still wear a smile
Lucky me
Even though I'm so damaged
I gotta pick myself up and perform for the crowd
Lucky me
Plenty of my loved ones wanna be stars
'Cause nobody said it would be so hard
Wouldn't put this on no one else
Yeah, lucky me
So exclusive
I don't have to wait in the line
It's like the club is mine now
If it was only that simple
Then what I'm saying is easy to do
And we know that's not true
Whatever money can buy
I probably got it
That's real talk, yeah
I see my name in the sky all over the world
And I just sit hear saying, lucky me
I gotta pose for the cameras
Even when my world's falling down
I still wear a smile
Lucky me
Even though I'm so damaged
I gotta pick myself up and perform for the crowd
Lucky me
Complaining to my loved ones I wanna be a star
But no one ever told me it would be so hard
I wouldn't put this on no one else
Yeah, lucky me
My dream and it's my heart
The life of being a star
You don't even know how hard it is, do you, yeah
Now I'm thankfully for everything
And I'm finally becoming a man
Now I gotta bigger a show to do
Lucky me
I gotta pose for the cameras
Even when my world's falling down
I still wear a smile
Lucky me
Even though I'm so damaged
I gotta pick myself up and perform for the crowd
Lucky me
Complaining to my loved ones I wanna be a star
But no one ever told me it would be so hard
I wouldn't put this on no one else
Yeah, lucky me
In Chris Brown's hit, Lucky Me, he talks about the life of a celebrity, the perks and the drawbacks that come with it. The song reflects on Brown's career as the attention he receives makes him acknowledge how lucky he is. He mentions that regardless of how down he may feel, he has to put on a show, and pose for the camera because people are waiting for him. Brown has feelings of gratitude for his success and recognizes that he is fortunate, but there's a price to pay for being famous, sometimes meaning loneliness, and he has to pick himself up and perform for the crowd. He expresses that he sees his name all over the world, and the limelight and praises make him feel thankful. Chris references that his loved ones want to be stars also, but he would not put this life on anyone else.
Furthermore, Chris acknowledges that his position allowed him to acquire anything he might want, probably real talk; the celebrities and the rich are often known to splurge. The clubs are his for the taking, and the DJ plays his songs. But the price to pay is that he recognizes that it is not as simple as it seems; it takes hard work, late nights, and constant pressure to keep up with expectations. Brown begins to appreciate his life and acknowledges that he is finally becoming a man in his pursuit of happiness. He recognizes his blessings and is grateful for everything, despite the difficulties he had to face.
