Big Brother
Chris Caffery Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Solo]

I know a thing or two
About you
The clothes you wear
The colour hair
The search
Will find you and bind you

He who walks
Amongst the rows
My eyes do not close
You live to be free
But I always see
When you think you're
Safe and all alone
Big brother is watching you

Of the principle pompous
We are the hunter's army
Bind you, we'll find you

He who walks
Amongst the rows
My eyes do not close
You live to be free
But I always see
The start to the end
So do not pretend
My electric eye, he sees
Thirty million currently
When you think you're
Safe and all alone
Big brother is watching you

[Solo]

Bring us in

He who walks
Amongst the rows
My eyes do not close
You live to be free
But I always see
The start to the end
So do not pretend
My electric eye, he sees
Thirty million currently
When you think you're
Safe and all alone
Big brother is watching you

Just when you think

You're safe in your home
Big brother is watching you

Overall Meaning

The song "Big Brother" by Chris Caffery is a warning against the ever-increasing surveillance and control of our lives by the government and the media. The title itself is a reference to George Orwell's classic novel "1984," which warns of a totalitarian society where the government has absolute control over its citizens. The lyrics warn that no matter how innocent or insignificant we may be, we are always being watched and monitored, through cameras, social media, and other means of surveillance. The reference to "He who walks amongst the rows" may suggest that this surveillance is not just impersonal monitoring but comes from people around us who may secretly inform and spy on us.

The lyrics also suggest that we may not even realize we are being watched and controlled, as we may feel "safe and all alone," but the "electric eye" is constantly observing and recording our every move. This can give rise to a sense of paranoia and mistrust, as we are constantly under the watchful eye of an unseen Big Brother. The solo in the song may represent the cathartic release of pent-up emotions and frustrations, as the guitar wails and screams against the oppressive forces that seek to control us.
