The Temple
Chris Caffery Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Children start to play, there’s magic in intention
Will it go away when the father takes his toll
Dreaming of life in distant places
Eternally is seems there’s love
Love in these embraces

Can’t conceive the devastation
I relate to your frustration
Can we save our mystic temple
I relate to your frustration
Can’t conceive the devastation
I relate to your frustration
Can we save our mystic temple
I relate to your frustration

Save us, it’s hard to breathe
A manic situation
Humans, only spread the disease
As the father takes control
Legions! The jester bows, he’s free
I can’t explain, I’m sorry my friends
The temple bleeds me mentally

Can’t conceive the devastation
I relate to your frustration
Can we save our mystic temple
I relate to your frustration
Can’t conceive the devastation
I relate to your frustration
Can we save our mystic temple
Help us save our mystic temple

Close your eyes, see my temple
Chariots of gold take the never ending ride it goes
Across the seas, by the night we all sang along
Many believed it never could demise
Alive, the temple it grows, ‘til lives explode
The dream it ends, what has happened to me

You should have seen it coming
Green, amber, red light running
In victory we were blinded
Reality starts rewinding

Warning
Your temple’s not bullet proof
Mourning
Awaken and change the truth
Victims
The legion is fighting doom
Warning
It’s time to accept that it’s true

Warning
Your temple’s not bullet proof
Mourning
Awaken and change the truth
Victims
The legion is fighting doom

Warning
It’s time to accept that it’s true

Overall Meaning

In Chris Caffery's song "The Temple," the lyrics explore the idea of a "mystic temple" being threatened by external forces. The first verse speaks of children playing and the magic they create through their imagination and intention. However, this magic is in danger of disappearing if the "father" takes his toll, referring to a force that could either be a person or an abstract concept. The second verse seems to address the devastation caused by this force, as well as frustration at the inability to save the temple. The chorus repeats the call to save the temple and the frustration felt at the lack of ability to do so.

The third verse introduces the idea of a jester bowing and being free, yet unable to explain what's going on. This adds a surreal element to the song, and it's unclear whether the jester is a representation of the temple or something else entirely. The final verse speaks of a chariot of gold taking a never-ending ride across the seas, with people singing along. However, this dream-like state is shattered when the temple explodes and the dream ends.

In 1989, MTV’s Hard Rock 30 would play this track. Before life changed for me as I went to Marine Corps boot camp in the fall. Absolutely epic!!! Mike sounds fantastic. Rest In Peace!
